Troubles with touch pad calibration...how to save it?

Post by marce3m »

Hi everybody,
I'm new on this forum and very nice to meet you!
Unfortunately, I had some troubles with my Korg m3 about the touchscreen calibration, and I have also read that there are a lot of similar situations like mine.
Someone could help me? I tried a lot of solutions, read all the guides, but the problem is the same. The korg M3 doesn't save the touch panel calibration with the global settings. When turned on, the calibration is not so much accurate.
Is there an advice, or usefull tip about this topic? Someone can help me?
Thanks in advance for your answers!!

The calibration settings should be saved automatically so it may be getting to the point where it has to be repaired or replaced.

There were some theories about having the module flat but I don't buy into that one. There is also a theory that heating the screen will help. I did some research that suggests that heating only the edges may help. Here's a link to the thread that discusses it.

Here's my post from that thread...
Although I have not had this problem with my touch screens yet I have been concerned since I have my screen tilted upright for years. While I didn't dispute that heat fixes the problem I had doubts that keeping it upright was the real cause. Look at the number of other devices with upright touch screen. So I set out to find the science behind all this.

So according to what I found it appears that other environmental conditions may cause the glue to weaken and create loose connections with the wires on the edges of the screen. So maybe heating the entire screen is a bad thing, just try heating the edges first.

Here are some links that suggest that it's only the edges that should be heated.

I think you have to use "Write Global Setting" to store the new calibration data. This is true for any setting made in Global mode except drum kits which use a separate "Write Drum Kit" command.

I think you may be right about that and it can't hurt to use the Write Global Setting command anyway. I was just assuming that since calibrate was a menu command vs a screen parameter it wasn't necessary to use a second menu command. I stand corrected.

Ok, thanks a lot to all for your suggestions, I'll try to use my M3 module in the horizontal position, just to do not stress the touch screen (just an experiment).
It's a pity, this hardware is fantastic but so delicate, and I always used it with big care. It's also difficoult to find a self made flight case only for the module. :-)

Bye!!

Yeah there are a lot of theories but not many facts. When my M3 screen started acting up, I did a lot of research as well... tried just about everything but finally just had my touch screen overlay replaced. I noticed that the new screen overlay has a matte finish versus the original one which was glossy. I am hoping the replacements are of higher quality and will last a lot longer.

Odd thing is... the Triton and Trinity keyboards had touchscreens and never had this many issues. Most illogical.
