Jumping pans - they won't stay!

Post by Lefty7 »

I'm working with the sequencer of the 2X. The song includes some instruments from Style Play as well as tracks that I played and recorded.

I'm moving the tracks from the 2X over to a DAT tape machine, where I'll add vocals, etc. To separate out individual tracks or grouped tracks, I've assigned some to L&R outs, some to output 1, some to output 2.

In the case of some of the individual tracks (from Style) going out the L&R outputs, I set the pan to where I want it, but in a few measures it jumps back to its previous setting.

This is really confusing me, because there's one Style track, (a rhythm guitar), whose pan stays where I put it - but a bass and a piano track keep snapping back while the song plays. (?) Also, I notice that the tracks I played and recorded, (not from Style), accept whatever changes I make to their pan settings.

I've been all through the manual and can't find even an oblique reference to this. Sure would appreciate some help form Obe Wan Korg... :3dread:

I can only suggest that you check the STYLE's MIDI - there must be a CC re-sent somewhere for that to happen.
If Korg originally built the STYLE with intentional panning then there will be MIDI events inside the track (I'm only guessing here!!)
What STYLE are you using?

Could, of course, even be a bug but seems unlikely....

Cheers

Ah, Obe Wan Karmathanever. Thank you so much, Pete, for your response; once again, your comments were helpful.

The Style was "Country 3/4".

On the offending tracks of the bass and the piano, I found CC (Value 1) 10 events.

In the case of the Style bass instrument (Fretless Bass 2), they appeared almost exactly every 8 measures, and all showed a (Value 2) of 64. On the Style piano track (Grand Piano), the CC 10 events were far more numerous, sometimes every measure. These had varying (Value 2) values, from 64 to 46 and many that increased incrementally, as: 52, 53, 54, 55. I don't understand the Value 2 values as they pertain to these CC 10 (pan) events.

But my lack of understanding notwithstanding, when I deleted these CC 10s from the offending tracks, the pans stayed where I put them when the song was played in real time. (Which is, of course, what I needed.)

So I still don't know how or why those CCs got there; nor do I understand why there were none on the Style rhythm guitar (Real Folk Gtr) track - the one that accepted the pan changes without snapping back.

But in this case, ignorance is bliss, for I can now separate these tracks as needed.

Thanks, and Cheers to you, mate.
