R3 in a bit of a pickle

Post by henrymac »

In general, I love my R3 and it's been fantastic for me thus far, however...

I've been experiencing some pad issues  (and bank selector issues) as a few have posted here previously, and the general solution seems to be restoring factory settings to the R3 due to the software being 'corrupted' in one way or another.

However, the following pads are dysfunctional on my R3 at the moment:
LATCH
Pad 4 (SWAP TIMBRE)
Pad 8 (PROTECT)

I'm sure you can see my problem before I have to spell it out, but in case you're skimming this post:
I can't very well reset my R3 to factory settings with write protection enabled, yet I have no way to turn it off using the normal method (SHIFT+Pad 8 ).

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there another way to either disable write protection or even restore factory settings without disabling write protection?

Thank you for your time.

I don't see how a factory reset would fix this as it sounds to me like a mechanical issue.

Also, a factory reset does not reload the OS. It just resets all of the settings and sounds to factory. Which can help when someone (either you or a previous owner if 2nd hand) has made some accidental edits that make things not work as expected.

As mentioned, this sounds like a mechanical issue so you should get someone to look at the microswitches under those buttons.

hopefully its just some crud built up under those buttons. if its no longer under warranty, the r3 is very easy to open up.im sure theres video or pics of someone doing it a google search away. a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on a qtip and a can of compressed air can work wonders. just be extremely careful
