Psychotic Giraffe Bass Drops

How does this guy do it? apparently he uses a lot of hardware synths and I'm not only curious how one would replicate his 8 bit ensembles but also his basses, his basses seem awfully complicated, whenever I try to replicate them it sounds a lot thinner than what he makes.

He says that he uses the Korg R3 and Microkorg extensively.
