Digital Kick - not exactly wavedrum related

Post by syberchick70 »

We have a wavedrum, but I'm not sure we want to modify it (although the mods look interesting). My percussion setup is a little 'different', I sit on a cajon, have a little tambourine on my left foot, wavedrum slightly to my left, djembe (on a stand) to my right (and a doumbek I can pick up at any point). This is fine, but what would really be *great* would be just a simple electronic kick drum pedal I could use. I know they come with drum kits, but can you get JUST the pedal, maybe hook it into the sound board independently? Or is there some other creature that would do the trick for me? If I were modify the wavedrum to accept a kick pedal, I wouldn't be able to use it for the other voices at the same time, would I? Looking for a quick, easy solution with very low 'real estate'. I guess alternately, I could just invest in an actual kick drum and set it to the side, but we often work in small spaces, so I'm trying to minimize. Thanks in advance for any ideas from the fellow percussionists :)

This is just a suggestion but this might be what you are looking for. I hope this helps.

Oh wow... that's really expensive  and I'm not sure if it works as a 'stand alone' electronic kick drum, or if it needs to be used with a digital 'set'. It doesn't specify. :/ You don't happen to know, do you? If so, I'd love to find something like that.. only considerably less expensive.

Ok. Apparently, one solution would be to use a 'trigger' such as this (there are cheaper ones) and connect it to a drum machine/synthesizer type deal. This is not a cheap option though. It would be great if someone made just a dedicated, simple electronic kick drum pedal. :/ So far though, I haven't seen one.

hi syberchick70

there are a few pedals with integrated sounds (samples)

http://www.thomann.de/gb/finhol_kickbox_mark_iii.htm
http://www.thomann.de/gb/meinl_fx10_epe ... spedal.htm

many DiY solutions out there for stompboxes ...
with piezos , small speakers , headfones and microfones
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... GlqaDCcUCk
the sound depends a lot on the equalizing and processing of the signal
solution with very low 'real estate
what U might want is soundmodule in combi with a stompbox ,

too expensive? why not use your Wavedrum ?
most of the Algorithms do not really sound , when programmed to the rim

with a hot spot trigger signal they surprisingly do .
this sound is kind of "bonus sound" for the solderers ,
the WD itself still plays and sounds like "out of the box"

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for!! Thanks! And good to know about the wavedrum mod. I guess we're a little leary about modding it since it was expensive and it's still pretty 'new' to us. ;) Great resource here.

Since you already use a cajon, this might work too.

I've considered it, but reviews on the cajon kick pedals say that they break easily

You could get a wavedrum mini to add to your setup which has a clip you could clip to yourself as a pedal and also have an extra playing surface to boot.....moon

Another standalone digital stomp box for kick and percussive sounds is the Sclagwerk cajokick, they are quite an innovative and very well crafted brand so I would expect them to release a pretty decent product.

Also available on the same site - http://www.thomann.de/gb/schlagwerk_cki ... onkick.htm
