korg radias, virtual patch midi out

Post by mickeyziggyk »

Hi

Having no luck at all getting midi to transmit over the virtual patch. I can control other synths physically by adjusting RADIAS knobs that have been midi mapped to the control numbers of the target synth parameters.

RADIAS, timbre is set to channel 4.
Virtual Patch 5: LFO1 source modulates Patch5Int destination
Patch5Int is set to cc18 in global midi map.

Receiving synth: Elektron Analog four with filter1 cutoff being set to cc18 and channel of sound is set to channel 4.

The manual states that virtual patches can transmit MIDI out (p149, section 'Other control') , so I must be missing something.

(I have tested it is not the a4 with another sequencer successfully).

Any pointers would be great. Thanks

No, if you're trying to achieve what I think you are, that is just not going to work.

The CC assignment is just there to set what the knob transmits.

The Patch Intensity mod destination is merged with the knob value at the virtual patch, it doesn't override.

The actual virtual patch is a feature of the audio engine and happens in a potentially polyphonic way, there's no way this could be made to transmit a MIDI message in the way you are trying.

Hi and thanks, that is what I am trying to achieve. P149 of the manual states that it should be possible, but I am unable to achieve this so far. I checked the midi implementation guide too and it looks like it should be possible.

Anyway, I'll bear your helpful comments in mind, but I will continue with this for a while yet, and then give up (pre and post keyboard settings in global menu)

As I said, you should not consider any of the sources which are a part of the polyphonic tone generation as being capable of generating MIDI messages. Aside from poly aftertouch, there isn't even a way of possibly expressing such data over MIDI.

Even if your sound is set up to be mono, the entire synth just isn't designed to work that way.

P149 of the manual only talks about MIDI assignment for front panel controls themselves, not implying any link to the functions that they control within the synth engine itself.
