I bought the M-Audio SP-2 sustain pedal. Nothing fancy, just for a little sustain, right? Should be straight forward...nah. Won't be recognized and I played on the global settings (pedal) for a while. Still no joy.
Would anyone be so kind as to tell me where can I activate it?
Thank you
Be well

Dummy check (sorry)...
1.) Plugged into the "sustain" or "damper" jack, and not "pedal"? "Pedal" is for assignable wah-type volume pedal. "Switch" is also assignable -- not generally sustain; more stuff like start/stop, or effect on/off. The hold function happens pretty much only at the "sustain" jack and does so automatically as virtually all programs are written to look for that control and behave the same way unless it is specifically dis-abled.
2.) Pedal has single black line on jack (tip/sleeve) an not two (tip/ring/sleeve) -- the later is a feature of pedals that are for boards having a half-damped or true sostenuto for their pianos. The krome may "see" the pedal if it is only jacked in half way, but the one-ring type is what you need pretty much universally for Korg gear. [I will carefully refrain from LOTR references here.]
3.) Does the pedal work in other gear? Test that if you can. Damper/sustain set up is in Global menu under performance preferences -- open or closed -- but it should not be the source of the "recognition" problem; there is no routine for recognizing or registering the presence or type of pedal -- a bad pedal cable on the other hand might be the problem. The performance options are open circuit vs. not -- the pedal just closes or opens for the "other" state at which point sustain happens.
4.) Does a working pedal (from other gear) do the job where your sustain pedal doesn't? Time to get a new pedal.

It needs to go into the "Damper" input (even though you're using it as a sustain).
And if mine is anything to go by (a Yamaha one), it only registers the pedal is connected after it's been pressed once.
If you've got the wrong polarity set, it will still work _BUT_ will work in reverse (up = sustain, down = release).
Once I'd got mine plugged into the right input, it worked straight off...
dafad.
