Korg M50 + DAW (Presonus Studio One 2)

Post by fkoomek »

Hello. At first I would like to say, that I have only very basic knowledge of controlling of Korg M 50, I am not keyboard player, but we (my band) are making our first records on our own in testing room. And it seems like I am the only one who has some technical abbilities :)Please I need to know following: I own DAW Presonus Studio One 2 and I have no problem with connecting it via USB cable to M 50. It's working good together. I am able to use Korg 50 as a midi keyboard and record midi tracks into Studio Presonus one. But I would like to know, if there is a way how to do it the other way around. When I have recorded midi track in my DAW, is it possible to send it to m 50 via USB and Korg will play the midi file? To understand better my situation: I dont have tu use USB port for recording, of course I can record OUTPUT from stereo connectors (Audio signal). But the problem is, that our keyboard player, sometimes she makes mistakes in timing. And my vision is - firstly record midi tracks to DAW, then edit these midi tracks (fix little mistakes) and then send these midi tracks through M 50 and record audio signal. Maybe it seems it's stupid when I can use midi templates in my DAW but believe or not, M 50 sounds sound much better to me. Hope my post is understandable, thanks :)

Korg makes a MIDI editor which works as a VST within your Presonus software and allows two way communication between your DAW and the M50 keyboard.

Go to the Korg web site (www.korg.com) and click the Support tab. Select M50 from the dropdown menu and click on the software sub-dropdown tab.

From there, select "M50 Editor Software Version 1.1.0" and download the software. Make sure that you also have the latest version of the USB-MIDI driver ("2/13/14 - USB-MIDI Driver"). Go to the driver sub-dropdown menu and install the driver.

Once you've successfully installed the software and driver, you can use the MIDI editor as a VST within a MIDI track in Presonus. With the M50 connected to your computer via USB-MIDI you can edit the MIDI track and control which sounds the M50 will make. The MIDI editor will remember the settings once you've saved your project.

You can listen to the audio while you edit the MIDI. Either connect the audio from the M50 back into Presonus, routed to an audio track. Or, you can route the audio to an amp or a PA system. Either way, you can listen while you edit the MIDI track.

Once you've edited the track and saved your work within Presonus, you can, with the M50 connected by USB, play the MIDI track and have the M50 play the sounds out to (for instance) a keyboard amp or a PA system.

Edit: Make sure you're using a 32-bit version of Presonus. The MIDI editor software does not work well with 64-bit DAWs.

Thank you very much. It works correctly, but as you said only in 32 bit version of Presonus Studio One 2.
