Post by iAlien8 »

I have the first KPro. How do I get 32 measures?

I'm thinking of an SP404 for samples instead of playing samples on the turntables. Advice? Reviews?

if you're planning on just triggering one-shot samples or loops and NOT doing any live looping or expecting a loop to run and be able to then change the tempo, then go for it.

it has masses of sample storage space so you can in theory sample entire songs and play them back (but not be able to skip to points mid-sample)

it is a very basic sampler but even within its limitations you could in theory (and a lot of practice) produce full tracks on it.
The FX on it are great (but only one at a time)
It has a pattern sequencer with ONE track/pattern but you can record multiple patterns and switch between them.

If you're any good at finger drumming it would be a nice tool to load drum hits onto then play them into the KPRO to live-loop.

It is what it is. Do plenty research on it before buying cos a lot of people buy one expecting it to do way more than it actually does then getting tired of it because it takes real work to use to its full potential.

As with all potential purchases: download and READ the manual cover to cover to get a feel for what it can and cant do. then watch youtube vids focusing on specific areas you are interested to learn more about.

Personally I love mine. favorite sampler I own! (sorry MPC :( )

the information you give is very helpful. I am not exactly sure if I'll find a unit to give me what I want exactly. I want to be able to play it in song mode, and I want to be able to use it live with the ability 2 hit drum fills or switch patterns at any given time. My idea is to run the drums into my mixer amplifier and not have it going through my jam man express loop pedal. My keyboards, Kaoss pad, vocals, bass and guitar all are going through the loop pedal into the mixer amplifier. I use an Alto ZMX 122 myxer to get them into the loop pedal.this is mostly new gear I have a Wavedrum Mini going into the mixer amplifier and that is what I want to replace because it does not have the versatility I need. I was looking into the boss ddr3 I believe it's called and also an Akai drum machine around $300 price range. I know I can use a foot pedal with the boss machine, but don't know if I could with the Alain from all the videos I've watched.

Something like an MPC would be a better fit then I think.

The SP404 only has a single pattern running at any given time with no individual mutable tracks so how the pattern is recorded is how it plays back. When you select another pattern it switches to that next pattern at the end of the previous.

The MPC you can record multiple individual tracks in a sequence so you can mute those tracks/parts individually on the fly.. but can also play samples live over the sequence (you can also do this with the 404 but its polyphony is limited to 12 mono/ 6 stereo samples)

the MPC can also sequence all your other gear if needed. The sp404 only has MIDI in.

If you can find a Boss DD7 delay pedal for a good price, get that instead of the DD3 because its stereo and a really fantastic digital delay pedal.
