Struggling to set up with Ableton (calling Qui/SanderX)
Further to my recent post about struggling with some midi set up issues(still not solved) I now have another problem I am struggling to solve with my Ableton and K88 set up.
I use my Kronos as my sound card via USB into Ableton Live9.
I have been trying to record audio from the K using an external instrument in Live as per Qui's tutorial video and have set up a midi track and some audio tracks. Problem is that once I have recorded one audio track when I record the next one I get audio bleed through from the first track on the second track. In other words the background sound of he first track is in my second audio track. I have played with lots of the I/O options in Live but it is still happening. The only option is muting other audio tracks but then I am not playing along with them.
I thought full integration was possible here...
I am wondering if this is due to the fact I am using the K as the audio interface and it's only a 2 channel device.
Any thoughts from any other Live 9 users would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Hey, thanks for the vote of confidence but I don't actually use my Kronos that way, or much in the studio at all. It's probably Qui you need to talk to.
That said, I think that this is the way the K works. Would love it if you could prove me wrong though. You could possibly get around it by recording midi first, then playing that back while muting the already recorded audio?

No, that's not possible with the kronos, the sound card functionality of the kronos is very limited and not a good solution for integrating it in a studio environment.Jeremy Bender wrote: I thought full integration was possible here...
The fact that you hear the bleeding of previous recorded material is because the output of your recorded channels is merged with the played material through USB. You can't avoid that.
The only real option is to invest in an external audio card, they aren't that expensive. Just be sure that it has low latency drivers like ASIO for instance when you use it on a PC (for MAC you need Core drivers instead of ASIO if i recall it correctly).
Then it's easy to do, you can attach the kronos to the inputs of the audio card and you can use the setup i posted earlier in ableton live.

Thanks very much for the help all. Much appreciated. I thought it was probably the limitation of the K as an audio interface but couldn't rule out it being my stupidity...
Any ideas on the best interface to use with IMac and both USB and old school midi please? Don't need tons of audio inputs but sound quality and low latency are key to me plus want to link up at least 2 old midi synths
Thanks
Steve

I don't know how your budget relates to what you think is "best" but RME, Universal Audio and Apogee are some of the top quality players in that market right now. The RME UCX might be up your alley, it's still reasonably priced compared to some other offerings.
If you're looking for a more budget friendly solution, the Focusrite Scarlett series seems to be pretty popular and still decent quality.
Pick the amount of in/outs that makes most sense for you. Also, USB currently seems the safest way to go, compatibility wise.

Can you direct me to the post you are referring to where you are showing the setup for an audio card. I am using a Motu Hybrid and want to route the kronos midi and audio through it.QuiRobinez wrote:No, that's not possible with the kronos, the sound card functionality of the kronos is very limited and not a good solution for integrating it in a studio environment.Jeremy Bender wrote: I thought full integration was possible here...
