Kronos Mounting....Mad Idea...

Post by pedro5 »

I'm thinking about mounting a Kronos 73 key in a near vertical position(yes...a mad idea,perhaps... :) ).

Would a tv wall mount provide sufficent support ?

I was thinking about this one...

Cheetah Mounts APDAM2B Articulating Full Motion Dual/ Amazon.co.uk/ Electronics.webarchive.

(Not sure if that will show as a link...??).

Any comments or suggestions would be appreaciated.

Thanks.

not that I'm a judging person, but I can't fathom the practicality of this. you can probably make it work by running some lag bolts through the bottom of the chassis. and attaching the bracket for the wall mount through those. Of course, this will void any warranty.

How would you actually play it (unless you were planning on mounting it above your head)?

TV wall mounts I've looked at in the past will usually specify a maximum weight. However, if you'll be playing like that, the stress would be much greater than a static load. The other question would be if there is a solid enough surface on the Kronos to mount it. TV mounts connect directly to the frame of the TV. You might have to make some structural modifications to the chassis. Overall, sounds like a bad idea to me.

Ooops.... I should have included an explanation.....
Hope this makes better sense.

The idea is to use the Kronos as a mere sound module, without playing the keys.
Having it mounted onto a wall, which is about 3 ft in front of my normal playing position,by using a tv wall mounting would provide a sort of "pull/push" postioning above other keyboards.

My Kronos is currently being repaired....for the second time... I anticipate it will also be another failed attempt and I don't wish to repeat the excercise of sending it off again.
If that being the case,I shall be using it as a module only and use alternative keyboards,in their own right and/or as controllers, which will be at two tier max.
I could use the Kronos screen, knobs and buttons above them, but not play any keys at that height.

The actual fixing will need extra holes in the board and probably other mounting points, also some additonal support on its front edge at the end cheeks(I know they're plastic, but are capable of taking some weight without damage).

The tv mounts are specified at 74kg,if correct..??..the Kronos 73 is around 22 kg......I won't be playing it,so,the stresses may be ok.

The warranty will be affected,of course, but by the time I attempt this project,it will have expired anyway and shall be fed up of not having a the RH3 keybed to play properly.

Unless.......they manage to repair it,this time....

Told you it was a "mad idea"....but... :)

Thanks for the replies.

My MAD idea is to take it apart and custom fit it into a couple of rack drawers.
