x5D midi problem

Hi,

I have owned this X5D for many yrs but never had luck getting it to work with cubase on my PC.

I have recently managed to record track 1 in cubase from the X5D but can't record anything to track 2.
If I copy track 1 to track 2 it still doesn't play back thru the x5D.
Cubase shows transmitting information but the x5D doesn't make a sound.

I'm sure the problem is in the x5d settings somewhere but where ?

I've been using Korg as a controller for my Roland rack unit.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
