Hello Everyone!
I have recently bought a kp3 and a microkorg. I have gone through tutorials and bit my nails off figuring things out. But all i do is dream kaoss and wake up thinking about my kp3! i am simply in love with it!
I want to get more efficient and technically savvy in it. Right now i am playing only by ear. So here is my question.
I have a midi cable connect between my microkorg and the kaoss pad. I turn the signal to ext from my microkorg and my kp3 syncs with it. My only issue is to get it synced with the software i have installed in my computer logic pro. I use beats and samples from there as well but i can't seem to sync my kp3 with it. Do i need some sort of a mixer, sound card or a midi controller between my kp3 and the computer? Any information would help! Or instructions to completely sync it with the samples playing of the logic pro would be very very much appreciated! i have tried looking online but all i find is the usb connection information which is not very helpful.
I create samples in microkorg and loop it through the kp3 and put effects on it form my kp3 as well but when i am figuring out tunes on my microkorg is there a way to mute it while i figure it out and the kp3 is still going on and so are the samples from the logic playing through. And once i figure out the tune in my microkorg i can sample it through the kp3 while i am playing live? do i need to buy anything extra?
Thank you so much!

Kp3 with micro korg and logic
Hi Dj Baxm,
I'm wondering how you monitor everything at the mo without a sound card or mixer?I would recommend a half decent audio interface,the scarlet from Focusrite is excellent and gives midi connections too for your micro korg (if its 1st Micro Korg without USB).not totally important though as long as you can hear Logic and Kp3 with Korg through and samples ,at the same time.So you want to plug output of KP into inputs on Logic,hopefully through a sound card and monitor,then record both micro korg ,loops of korg and KP effects in Logic as you start jamming ideas.i wouldn't worry straight away about remixing Logic through pad, you can try that later when ideas develop by feeding either the micro korg input or KP with tracks from Logic,then re-recording on a new audio track in Logic.But right now hook up KPs USB into logic and feed the KP a sync signal from Logic,setting KP to ext sync.you will need drivers from korg I think so logic recognises its connection.The KP has very sloppy midi clock sync with its own sample loops and is awful when set as master clock,it's not much better when set to external and will start to drift by the 5 minute point.its a shame but is designed as live jamming tool and under long session(like the 13 min excursions I like to record)it can feel broke, when synced with external midi clocks.its good for quick recordings though and depending how you use it you may be ok ,even with it set to Int midi clock.there is work arounds I found but that involes more equipment.the loops stay rock solid with themselves (as long as they are all sampled at the same BPM originally) but have trouble syncing with external sequencers/ loops.its a design fault that may or may not effect you, depending on how you jam.
So plug the micro korg into KPs input.Set the KP to direct and jam ideas monitoring everything through Logic with a short latency setting or using direct monitoring on an audio interface.you can turn you KP loops down or off when needed.I also recommend version 2 OS for you KP if not already as it helps with different sample triggering and volume edits.
Hope that covers most things,the best of luck.
Oh No change that ..I've just remembered (its been over a year since I've done this) it's better setting the KP to internal clock then setting Logic to external.plug the micro with 5pin midi and clock signal from KP like you where,then use the external control on KP (shift and memory button
to start your DAW in time with your loops.You will need the software editor on your computer to set up a key of choice as play trigger.its under control changes/ext control near the bottom of editor ,but my computer isn't working so I can't be more specific.Hope all this helps,sorry about the error before too.

THANKS!
hEY Spheric!
Thanks for the help! all this information is so helpful!
I ended up buying a focus rite audio interface and its one of the best. I hooked my microkorg with the kaos pad through MIDI and out puts and have the kaospad set as internal clock. So everything from the microkorg is going into the kaos pad through the audio interface into the speakers
Have them both(kp3 and microkorg) connected through a single midi cable helps alot when i try to play live. I havent gotten down to the part where i can set up logic to receive the midi signal from kaos pad but thats going to be my next challenge. None the less there are 2 problems that i am currently facing now. i have gotten this far atleast!
1- when i am looping my microkorg samples through the kaos pad, i sometimes want to change the effects on the kaos pad from lets say a filter 1 to delay or something. Every time i do that the transition is not smooth. I have tried holding the shift button and sliding that little knob on the left but i am sure i am not doing it right? any advice on how to make my transitions from one filter to the other smoother?
2- i want to be as much computer free as possible and i wanted to know if there are any recommendations to have a looper attached to my kaos pad that can record more than 4 samples and i can keep over layering the samples flawlessly and not re sample them on the kaos pad? to keep the show going?
Thanks alot again and i hope this is helping other beginners as well!

Hi Baxm,
Good news ,I'm glad your getting on.
1- You know about writing program memories to buttons 1-8 ?
Set up effect/depth etc. Hit write, lights flash, hit 1.
Repeat with new effect,press write, hit 2.
Now pressing 1 or 2 will call up that effect faster. This is the quickest method, well quicker than tweaking the program knob, but there will always be some jolt between effect changes ,though sometime this can sound ok,but delays and 'verbs will be cut.
2- more tricky as this is more personal to the work flow you develop and there are many options for looping out there,different prices and results.
The Boss RC-505 looks nice and I've heard good reports but not used one;
Electrix Repeater is an old but good one; plus there are numerous pedals of various kinds...
I use 2 KP3's (along with 2 KP mini's).I can recommend this -its a lot of fun, especially if you find cheaper 2nd hand models.You know what you'r getting and there is different ways to connect them/use them.
I also have a few other ways to quickly record: A CD burner (separate) is a quick way to record;Or cheap multi tracks,but no good for live,just studio;
Then more expensive is something like OP-1 or Octotrack but the latter is prob OTT for what you need.(not cheap).
Maybe someone else on this forum might come in with some looper suggestions...(?)
Anyway ,good to hear from you.Hope this helps.
