hey,
during live performance with my microKorg, i want to tweak my patch and then return to performance edit mode – the initial mode for the the 5 knobs. i already know, that i just have to press the program number. but when i do that, the patch gets reset to the preset status.
well no always...i'm using ableton as a live sequencer for the microkorg and at first i can return to performance edit mode without getting it reset, but after playing a while the patch gets reset, when i press the program number. and once it does that, i have to turn off and on again the microkorg, in order to be able to return to performance edit mode without resetting the patch.
does anybody know what the problem is?
returning to "performance edit" resets patch

Hey,
I can not confirm your problem, as I own the XL.
But, I would first disconnect any midi (Ableton) and check whether you could swap back and forth between performance edit mode and edit select 1/2 modes.
If that does not work out properly, then this is most likely a limitation/bug of the mK. I.e. pushing the lit program number does a reload of the stored settings of the patch and ends then automatically in performance edit mode. (Iso only switch back to performance edit mode.)
If it works properly, then I would look at the ableton side. Maybe it sends for some reason a MIDI Program Change message, which does a reload/reset of your program. It is also interesting to monitor the MIDI bus to see what is going on, especially when you push the program number button and how ableton reacts on it.
The fact that you really need to powercycle the mK seems strange to me... Anyway.
Success!

i checked it again. while ableton was running as a step sequencer, pushing the lit program number causes a reload of the stored settings. then i plugged out the midi cables and tried it again. the settings i did now remained and i could return to performance edit mode, without resetting the patch.
so it must be a problem with ableton. do you have any idea how i can check the midi messages when i press the lit number on the microKorg?

Hi,
I don't know wheher you use Ableton just as sequencer or whether you try to control it as well from the mK?
If Ableton is supposed to send only MIDI to the mK and not to receive MIDI from the mK, you can try to disconnect the cable which plugs in into the MIDI out port of the mK. Leave the other cable as is. By this, the mK will not send out any MIDI data to Ableton and this may avoid the issue when tweaking around on the mK.
If you want to analyze the MIDI stream, I use 2 tools:
* MIDI OX to log all the MIDI data: http://www.midiox.com/
* loopMIDI to create virtual midi cables: http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html
Hum, it is not straightforward, but most of the times it works. Normally Ableton connects to the MIDI ports for the mK. Now we want MIDI OX in between. Therefore you setup 2 virtual MIDI loops with loopMIDI. MIDI OX connects now straight away to the mK and to both the virtual midi loops. MIDI OX is setup in such a way that the MIDI from/to mK is patched through on to the virtual cables. Now Ableton must be connected to the virtual cables. If you want to go this way, I can have a look again to explain it more in detail, because I always forget it myself. It is quite confusing from time to time.
Have fun.

Remove the MIDI out from the active track in Ableton. Or possibly turn the track's monitoring setting to Off.
It's echoing the program change message back to the MK.
Alternatively if you use the MIDI out (e.g. by using MK both as an input device and a sound module, turn Local mode 'off' in the microKorg's Global settings.
When a MIDI track in Ableton is record armed and monitoring is switched to On or Auto, it will echo the MIDI messages received on that track to the MIDI outputs also specified on that track.
You can access those per-track routing settings by turning on the 'io' view button on the right of the mixer area.
