New Kronos a quick overview

Post by benny ray »

For me it seems the Berlin Grand sounds a little better than German Grand and also that new organ sound patch is hot as well. Let me just say everything sounds great to my ears and that will take care of the jibberish

Kronos 2 versus X

Post by McLaren »

Hi, all... I am a newby, so go easy if this is a silly question - but how does the 2 relate to the X? I see that the KORG USA site features both, yet there appear to be contradictions on various websites... Eg 2 is new/ improved/ etc; the best, with new features ( even over the X). Yet the X appears to be more pricey (or is it???). What does one do that the other doesn't, and is there likely to be a 2X around the corner???

I was drawn towards the 88X because of limitless potential, but has the 2 leapfrogged everything?

Again, apologies if this is basic stuff, but I'm confused.

Thanks in advance!

"but how does the 2 relate to the X? "

1) can you find the X for sale ? new ? or used ?
I noticed the X88 was hard to find a few months ago in the US

2) A '2X' for sale soon ? Very unlikely that the latest Kronos will be improved on with a newer model. Not even a gleam
in Mr Korgs eye . Don't worry about that.

Thanks, GregC - looks like the 2 has leapfrogged everything. I'll get out and try one :D

From what I can tell the main difference for the Kronos 2 is revamped exterior styling. My Kronos X now has the same OS that the Kronos 2 will have (thanks Korg :) ) and I will have the option to purchase the new sounds being talked about out. If I purchase those, then I am then not aware of any differences other than what they look like! :)

Under the hood, there may well be different performance characteristics of motherboards, etc.

Others may have more/better info, but that is my understanding.

Thanks Derek, and much appreciated!

This Korg video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iFLCtqlMHU says the difference between the Kronos ("1") and the X was 30GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM, as opposed to 62GB hard drive and 3GB of RAM. I can't find any reference to the hard drive etc on the "2", but am assuming it now matches the X.

I am setting out this morning to Korg land and will ask.

Thanks again!

Update - have just seen here:

http://www.production-room.com/product- ... tAodrmkAZA

...."The internal SSD offers a generous 62GB capacity..." so it is indeed the same.

So thanks, guys :D

Yes it looks like although Korg are marketing the new Kronos as 'more powerful' this is misleading because pretty much all of the improvements are down to the new OS which is available to the original Kronos...we will just have to wait and see.

On top of this then you get wood end panels and a mesh at the back to let heat out...it may or may not have/need a fan but at any rate this may allow the fan to run quieter.

I'm also not clear on whether the top panel is now metal rather than plastic or is this just referring to the new mesh above?

Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to this, I'm hoping that now the issues with the RH3 keybed are sorted Korg have polished the build of what is a monster of a machine and I will be as happy an owner as when I had a Triton blue meanie =)

I wouldn't quibble over an advertising phrase of a 2015 keyboard.

The kronos 2 will have the Berlin grand, a 9 gig piano. The rest of us have to purchase that. Count me in.

Also included:
- EXs18 Korg EXs Collection (subset of EXs11 Legendary Strings; EXs15 Classical & Ambient Choir; EXs16 Funk and Soul Brass)
- EXs19 KAPro Private Collection-Download (Ensemble Strings, Pipe Organ, Synths, etc.)

the Kronos is an obvious success, if you take a step back . I don't worry about stuff from years ago and total perfection of a complex product is an illusion, IMO.

Guys,
Listening the sounds, seems to me that we can used or adapter some PROGs to old Kronos. As when V 2.0 was released, will be there is a PRELOAD_V3.PCG?
