New KRONOS Sound Pack !

Post by phenaste »

The New KRONOS Sound Pack is available only as a whole. :x

Okay, it is at the same price than Austrian Piano or EXs11 BUT !

Maybe some KORG users are only interrested in KRS-07 because they already owned EXs11 + EXs15 + EXs16.
I know, the description say that KRS-07 is based on EXs17 & EXs18 but some advanced users could probably reassign MultiSamples of EXs18 to the right MultiSamples into original EXs11, EXs15 and EXs16 banks, and they could change Programs based on Berlin Piano to a German Grand.

I expected to see separated sound banks too, don't you ?

It's a lot of money, but all things considered I think they've been more than fair. When I bought the Kronos it had OS 1.0.6. Since then I've gotten 7 more program banks, user sample streaming from disk, a better Leslie (plus accompanying organ bank) and more IFX, all for free. And those are just the most significant updates I can think of right now.

I don't know if I'll get the upgrade yet since I prefer to maintain compatibility with people who sub for me in my band who use their own Kronos. But to pay 250 to have my Kronos practically identical to a model that came out four (?) years later doesn't seem unfair. Nobody's forced to upgrade.

I was angry at first sight as well, before I really looked at the price, because my feeling was that Korg enforced a weird kind of packaging on me, including reselling of something I already bought.

But on second thought that's not the case:
- you get the whole package at the price of one high quality piano
- you get it after a free great OS update
- you can decide what to load and what not due to the new OS3 "load required samples" functionality
That is a policy I would call more than fair!

So if anyone says "they won't get my money", that's completely ok: at the price of missing one of the best piano sounds on any workstation or even dedicated stage pianos out there. I'm not sure who is punished more by that decision.

After these second thoughts I didn't need a minute to complete the buy and begin with the downloads.
Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5

Or, you could spend a lot more to get a new Kronos, if you're desire is to stay current.

Here's the thing: A lot of older Kronos' are now out of warranty. Updating them to the "X" status is now not a warranty-voiding issue. We do that, (or not, it's not required for the balance of this post) and pay (in your case) 150 quid, and you have the same Kronos that's being offered for sale right now. You get fundamentally a new Kronos for a little outlay.

I've been in keyboards for a long time. A really long time. (Got my first synth in '73.) This is an unprecedented event: a manufacturer keeping your instrument current with updates not new hardware purchases costing thousands. No need to go spend all over again to get the features that have been developed over the last 4 years, you download them and install them for just a modest outlay.

I can only feel that this is a good thing. My Kronos will not obsolesce, just because a newer model has come out.

And to that, I say "Bravo, Korg!"

Price is OK for users who want the new Berlin D Piano.

For users who have already bought EXs11($249), EXs15($99) and EXs16($99), don't want to buy another Berlin D Piano, but only want the KRS-07 Programs, it's an heavy bill.

And, of course, KRS-07 is only available after purchasing the whole thing !
So the KRS-07 is at the same price as an high quality Piano.

KORG has clearly found the best solution to sell at the highest price !!!

If I had bought one of the early Kronos I would be very pleased with this release and I agree with the comment that very few manufacturers do this which saves existing users hundreds of pounds on new hardware. I can also understand the points of those who already have some of the EX's. I think Korg would have made most users happy if they had separated the various components and priced them up accordingly with a reduced price if you purchased the whole pack.

Sorry if this is a naive question but with regard to loading new programs, samples etc., how much of this pack could you load without running out of ram?

Hey guys,

stop hawling, I can't understand your negative statements...

I'm a owner of the first months of Publication and since then, I could update my Kronos to the next generation!!! If I look back to the TRITON Series it wasn't possible!

I could decide if I want the Update or not...

Korg is fair and the price more than worth, whatever it is inside!

Take only a look at the software market und you will appreciate KORG...
Love and peace to everyone :-)

I think KRS-07 - it will just PCG file consisting of sounds including those based on sample EXs 17-18. Trying to download a demo EXs17 & 18 - the upload speed of the site is very low - 40-60 KB / sec.

With regard to the fact that the Corgi wants to get us a lot of money - I want to remind you that if we do I want to become to KRONOS developed in hardware and that there were new programs and libraries, it requires no doubt financing. For example, I have a YAMAHA Motif XS, but I have not heard that they periodically update the OS and add sound libraries (although maybe I'm wrong, because little interest Motif).
The only thing for me (as the owner of two KRONOS) inconvenience that libraries have to buy 2 copies to both the device works the same way.

I might have bought it. But not as long as I can use it only on this particular Kronos.

I agree. These are great times to be a keyboard or Kronos owner.

Mine is almost 4 yrs old and I see absolutely no way to replace it. People seem to forget, that it was common to replace boards every 2 or 3 yrs because new boards were introduced that were significantly better. I use to drop $10,000 every 2 or 3 yrs to keep my multi board rig current.

With the kronos, there is no need to return to that costly keyboard merry go round.

And NAMM once again has proven that no other MI company can touch what Korg has done with the Kronos

And for $249, it appears that I can positively improve/refresh program banks A and B, giving my Kronos a new sonic character. What was my alternative 5 or 10 yrs ago ? Spend $5000, $6000 on new boards introduced at NAMM ?

I have great difficulty finding something to complain about . But that is just my opinion from my experience

Everything else aside, the download speeds from the Korg site is pathetic. They should be ashamed of it.
