Disable sound engine?
I would like it if I could disable the sound engine for certain pads that I want to sequence other gear with. This way I could save on polyphony and would save the faff of having to reduce the part level and turning off effects, filters etc. Because when I do that it also sends unwanted CC messages to my synth.
Anyone have any clever ways around this?

This is actually a great trick, when you think about it. If you have external gear that you want to control sequencing on via the E2, then yeah...audio in is the same as no audio at all.BlckJesus wrote:I think that's the purpose of the "Audio In" oscillator. Unless the synth you are sending the midi to responds to volume messages, in which case turning the sound on the e2 track down will also turn the external synth down.BlckJesus wrote:I think that's the purpose of the "Audio In" oscillator. Unfortunately it does! (Alesis Micron)
If I do therefore I have to unplug the MIDI out cable momentarily, or adjust the Micron after. Also doesn't reduce the CPU burden.

Just use the Audio in oscillator. Leave the volume up.ghostly606 wrote:Unfortunately it does! (Alesis Micron)

Yes that works I, but in jam scenario, say I want to add another external synth sound, would have to select next track, change oscillator to external synth, need to then manually disable filter, modulation, track and master effects before I can start recording notes. Could have set up in advance but that isn't always possible when jamming.

When you select a new track from an initialised pattern the filter is fully open, the mod depth is 0 and the IFX is turned off. All you have to do is press shift and rotate the oscillator pot 2 clicks to get to Audio IN. I don't know if you are running the sounds from the external stuff through the electribe, in which case you'll just have to disable the mfx send, if the audio is going straight to a mixer the FX shouldn't have any bearing on the sound anyway.ghostly606 wrote:Yes that works I, but in jam scenario, say I want to add another external synth sound, would have to select next track, change oscillator to external synth, need to then manually disable filter, modulation, track and master effects before I can start recording notes. i may be wrong.

Good point, never thought of using the shift!Frenzies wrote:All you have to do is press shift and rotate the oscillator pot 2 clicks to get to Audio IN.
I generally use my own Init pattern with filters and FX set up for each part but would be prudent to leave my filter off on the parts.
Thanks!

I remember someone here saying that when you select the Audio In Osc, there's a way to completely disable the audio coming in for that part by using the Osc Edit knob. I guess it's supposed to trigger a setting that mutes the signal so you don't have to adjust any additional parameters to silence the audio.

Had a play last night, the Edit knob when using the Audio In oscillator is basically an audio level. So a value of 0 is muted.
