EA-1 Advice Wanted on Creating Original Patterns

I recently bought a old EA-1 off eBay and would love any tutorial advice from experts out there.

I having loads of fun playing and modifying the patterns but now would like to create my own patterns, I have the manual but as a beginner with synths I am still not very sure.

I realise I can record my own parts and mess with the step sequencer but the preset background melody remains.

Any help would be fantastic.

Shift + pad 12 = clear part... so clear both parts
Shift + pad 11 = clear motion.. save and u got a empty pattern.
