Problems with KP3 and Data storing from Mac

Post by cellouovo »

Hi

I'm having problems with my KP3 and its SD card.
I've installed the Editor and the latest ( I think ) USB-MIDI driver with no problems. However when I connect my KP3 with my laptop through usb I haven't had any automatic creation of the various folders that need to contain the data that I want to copy onto the KP3 from the editor. I say automatic creation because the manual says that it's automatic once I connect the KP3 with my Mac. The SD is new, empty, 2GB and it's recognised by the KP3 but something maybe is not "right".
Am I doing anything incorrect? Is here a manual way to install the driver into my SD? Is there anyone in here who could suggest me a way to sort this KP3 enigma?

All the best

You have to format the SD card with the KP user interface- shift and 1 (combined). Then scroll with prog encoder and press on "Form?".
With that done,I would ignore the storage device method of locating through your desk top (and dragging direct from storage device ,ie your SD card).Instead just fire up your KP editor software and dive in/access your KP from here. Its more straight forward, easy to get to grips with. You can save files and samples easy anough this way.(Thats what I done). Then once familiar (more) with this ,go to your storage device the traditional way (without software.Drag and drop) to back up files.
Oh I think it's generally wise to plug in USB cable after booting up machines.

Hi there, thanks for your answer,
I had already formatted the SD card. This time I did as you suggested, storing directly from the Editor, however it doesn't make any difference to the card and to the KP3. For example, if you entered into your Kaoss Pad SD card do you have any folders where you store your samples ? It seems there should be some but I can't figure out how to do it ( if they actually need to be there .. ). Maybe the driver doesn't "communicate" with the card/Kaoss Pad ? :/

RTFM U?
KP3 OM page 22:

Macintosh users (Mac OS9.0.4 or later,
OSX 10.3.9 or later)
1. Use a USB cable to connect the KP3 to
your computer.
Plug the USB connector into the KP3’s USB
connector. Make sure that the connector is
oriented correctly, and insert it as far as it
will go.
If you’re using Mac OS9, a message indicating
that “The necessary driver is not
available” will appear, but you should
simply close the dialog box without installing
the driver.
2. Hold down the SHIFT button and press
the PROGRAM MEMORY 7 (USB) button.
The display will indicate “USB.”

3. The drive name of the card in the card
slot will appear on your computer.
While this screen is shown, you must not
disconnect the USB cable, remove the card
from the slot, or switch the power of your
computer on or off. Doing so may damage
the data.
4. To view the contents of the KP3’s card,
open the drive that was added to your
computer in step 2.
Copy the desired data onto your computer.
You can also copy data from your computer
onto the card.
5. When you’re ready to disconnect the
KP3, drag the drive from the desktop into
the Trash.
Then press the KP3’s SHIFT button to exit
USB mode.

NOTE When you’re ready to disconnect the KP3
from your computer, you must first exit USB mode
and then disconnect the USB cable.

About the contents of the card
The following files and folders will be created
in the root directory of the card.
Files you can save
SAMPLE Data 00–99.KPS
GLOBAL Data 0–9.KPG
PROGRAM Memory Set 0–9.KPP
All Data 0–9.KPA
Files you can load
SAMPLE Data: 00-99.KPS
00-99.WAV
00–99.AIF
GLOBAL Data: 0–9.KPG
PROGRAM Memory Set : 0–9.KPP
All Data: 0–9.KPA
NOTE If an All data file named “0.KPA” exists on
the card, this file will automatically be loaded when
you start up the KP3. etc.
Also read the KP3+ manual, its has improved instructions.
