ElectribeS OS

Post by roblabs »

Please check korg.com. There is now a separate entry for the ElectribeS in the downloads section. You'll see a v1.06 electribe sampler system file for download.

A bit puzzling because the file is called sampler system. ..

And notice a few things - it's v1.06...it's called "operating system" whereas under the Electribe it's software....hmmm

It gives an invalid file error when you go to the software update screen on the electribe2..... :(

I get a feeling Korg isn't doing much. I mean why would a multi million company need more than 6 months to create a proper firmware.

Early adopters are still waiting with their popping and clicking E2's. Korg should be ashamed.

They need to communicate properly to the customers. There should've been an announcement explaining the issues, what they will do to fix them and when. But to this date Korg is silent.

This does't promise anything good. But I'm sure there are countless people here that have blind faith in Korg. Even though they have been waiting for over 6 months for basic functions such as copying parts, having note/fx tails, having no pops and cracks, and so on.

If you compare the OS update files of Electribe and Electribe Sampler in an hex editor, you'll see two different identifiers at the beginning of the files:

You could try to open the Electribe Sampler OS file in an hex editor and change the red marked value from 53 to 00. Maybe this patch will transform your Electribe 2 into a Electribe Sampler, maybe it will KILL your device  BE WARNED: All this is pure speculation. You have to try this at your own risc and you will definitely lost your warranty.

I am sure many of us would donate some dollars to someone willing to try this with a new E2. The hardware is surely identical, right? The ability to swap abilities at will would be killer!

EDIT: Whoah, there is way more English in the hex file than I would have expected, including a list of all the 400 or so factory samples. I don't think I've seen this list before, as they haven't published the parameter guide for the sampler?

The reward is honor and glory :D

First thing to check is: Will the update function accept the patched OS file?

When the update function does recognize the file as valid and the version number is displayed correctly, we are a step further. If you don't start the update process, everything is low risk to this point.

Yeah, I had thought of that last night, but am not willing to take a chance at the moment. That might not be the only place for the ids as that is just the letter "s".

Yep! But still neat to see this info for the sampler. Also, there are tons of misspellings in the samples: so far I've found "Paino" (two times), "Comp Nien" and my personal favorite, "RotalyOrgan."

Rotally awesome!
