Help adding modulation to patch "4OSC Plain Stab"

Post by Mighty_Ferguson »

Hi,

I'm trying to add modulation to the sound "4OSC Plain Stab". I'd put the patch number, but I gather they could be different for different versions of the Kronos. My goal is to get the same modulation as you get when you push up on the joystick (JS+Y I believe), but have it on all the time, not just when pushing up the stick. I can figure this out on an AL1 based patch, but this one is a combination of MS-20EX and PolysixEX and I can't figure it out for the life of me. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

For starters, find the LFO that is being controlled by the joystick. What type of modulation are you looking for?

I'm trying to add pitch modulation. And I actually tried what you suggest, but I can't find the parameters being controlled by JS+Y. I see it listed in one place, but when I adjust the settings, it's not changing the sound when I push up on the joystick. I've looked all over the two EX screens, but can't figure it out.

That might be a cool feature for Korg to add - maybe when an AMS is on the screen and you activate it, it could turn red or something.

I believe you are looking for the Common LFO. This just sets up the parameters for the LFO such as speed, intensity, etc. You then need to go into the engines and apply the LFO to the Osc pitch. In other words you need to find the destination. Look at the Osc pages of the MS-20 and the PolySix. Once you find those, you can go back and turn off the Joystick X+ as an AMS. Sorry, I can't give you the specifics but hopefully this gets you headed in the right direction.

For MS-20EX (EXi 1) JS+Y modulation is done with patch panel. Modulation Generator goes to VCA that ic controlled by AMS where YS+Y comes in. VCA output goes to OSC freq input.
For Polysix (EXi 2) JS+Y seems to be hard coded to VCO vibrato. LFO frequency still comes from MG.

From here you can go on for making this effect "permanent". For MS-20EX just use any other suitable modulation modulation source (some knob/slider, you may need to free it from other function) in patch panel and in Polysix use MG with VCO mode.
