playing several longer samples at the same time?

Post by bnckd »

hey there..
just got an electribe sampler and apart of some quirks, that are not mentioned in the manual (which is quite basic unfortunately), it seems to work ok.

for now my main problem is: how can you have several longer samples playing at the same time? if i enter step mode and i program a quick drum pattern with my samples, fine, works. if i have a pad i´ve recorded it works fine too. but if i have a second sound i´ve recorded, or a longer vocal or whatever - all the samples will stop, as soon as the other sample starts playing.

please help - there must be a way for this, am i missing a setting?

thanks in advance!

and a second one:

when i assign imported samples to a part - sometimes 2 parts light up. i though maybe this happens with longer samples, but sometimes it does with short ones as well. so if you change a sound on part 3 you all of sudden loose part 4, because both parts are lit.

??

bnckd, you're First problem may be polyphony. Try giving some tracks high priority... Second problem is with stereo sample (they take two parts vs mono.),,

Check for choke groups on pads 13-16. Switch them off in the pattern menu.
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

thx for the tips!

well - changing the mono / poly & high priority settings on specific parts sometimes helps - but still a few parts out of all 16 stop playing or wont play from the beginning. this is driving me nuts.

i couldnt find "choke groups"?

and is there a setting to completely wipe a pattern/project/song/however you may call it? it seems you can only delete sequences on parts but not the whole thingy. the documentation is fairly poor, isnt it?

Sorry, they are called Alternate rather than Choke. They are numbers 12 and 13 in the pattern menu. When they are set to On, pads 13 and 14 will not play simultaneously, nor will pads 15 and 16. This mimics drum machine behaviour, to prevent the open and closed hihat sounding at the same time. Best switched off i say.

Easiest way to blank a pattern is to write an Init Pattern into it. Scroll to an Init pattern, press write and select the pattern number you want to blank. Or there is an Initialize Pattern option buried in the Data Utility menus.

thx for the init pattern, works like a charm.

as for the alternate 13 14 thingy - it doesnt.
my example: i have the first upper 6 filled with drumsounds.
then one stereo and the lower 8 contain 2 mono and 2 stereo samples - most of them are longer than one bar. some of them play, some dont.

if i mute all upper 6 drumsounds - everything else will play.
i think i definitely am not getting the polyphonic behaviour of the electribe, the problem lies there i guess?

I bought the sampler version the other day but i've yet to play with it. But i've had the synth version since the end of last year, so i'm familiar with the juggling act you have to play between oscillator/filter/fx types and how many parts you can have playing at the same time. With the synth, you're lucky to get 10-12 parts simultaneously sounding, no way 16. I'd have thought that things would be simpler with the sampler though, it's all sample playback with no fancy filter models to stretch the horsepower...

Resampling is key to free up polyphony.
