Looper Beat Divisions, Midi CCs and iPhone Control of KP3+

Post by luca9583 »

Hi folks

I'm thinking of integrating a Kaoss Pad (proabably a KP3+) into my guitar rig..mostly for the glitchy hold style effects with the Looper modes.

I have a few questions about the unit and would really appreciate any input.

1 Are the Looper beat divisions limited to half/quarter/eighth notes or can the KP be set to also fire up triplets?

2 Whenever you touch the pad to engage an effect, is it possible to also send external CC messages to other Midi gear? For example, whenever i touch the KP i would like to send CCs to a rack unit that will take the KP in and out of the signal path.

I wasn't sure if the external control mode of the KP bypasses the unit's own effects or not.

3 Are any of you guys controlling a KP with an iPhone using the Touch OSC app? If so, is there any latency?

4 Can the KP3+ be set to give you a rapidfire square tremolo/kill switch style effect where the speed is controlled by how fast you move from left to right on the X Axis? By this i don't mean changing the speed of an existing tremolo..i want to manually create the stutter using a left to right motion, so that my hand becomes the LFO.

Hi Luca,
1 the looper effects are even number from memory, but you can set BPM to 1.5 of song tempo.Experiment like that.
2 Ext control does disable sound but you don't need to use that mode to send CCs- it's does so in normal mode.I have controlled external Delay like this.
3 Ive not used that but no latency when ext control of Kpad.
4 Lots of ways to experiment this way.I set to send mode. This mutes input until I touch the pad,so I gate my decks like a crossroads for scratch effects on and off by tapping all three fingers over pad . You could use a filter to Low pass the sound on and off rapid like an LFO.Not sure exact what you mean but there is lots of ways to play with the sound like this.it has a mute button to thump too.
