Band-in-a-box to PA3X

Post by rbeach »

Does anyone know of either software or a process that would convert Band in a box styles to styles compatible with the PA3X ?

eli125.... Are you sure about that? Just looked at EMC's page and there's no mention of Band in a Box at all, or at least I didn't see it.

You can do it manually.

You can export from BiaB to a midi file. Take that midi file and edit it in your DAW to create the needed style elements (with markers) and then import that file into the style editor on your PA3X. Easy-speasy! ;-)

I did do this some time ago on my PA600. It worked fine.

HINT: If you do not know the structure of a KORG style in MIDI form, just export a style to midi then open that file in your DAW for inspection.

I used BiaB years ago to create some jazz styles on my Korg i30.
Yes you can do it but as Rick says - "manually"
It's not that hard as you can clearly see the number of measures and control the chord you play in BiaB.

Because BiaB styles are non real time and know in adavnce the next chords played, they are able to change the backing towards the new chord even before the new chord is there...which makes the acomp much more dynamic..

This however can not be done on a real time arranger..

This kind of styles however could be added to an arranger combined with the chordsequencer function..

I do not own Band-in-a- box but according to this email, EMC now has the capability.

Hi Bill,

thanks for the request. Our Styles-to-the-Box provides conversion of user styles from BIAB to any keyboard format and vice versa. Of course there are some limitiations: you will get only reasonable results from midi-based styles, Real Drums etc cannot be converted and of course the data structure of BIAB and keyboard styles is very different.
So you will be able to transport the musical content between BIAB and your keyboard, but this will not be a 1:1 conversion and results will require some tweaking.

Best regards

Hi
Bit late,
EMC does have the ability to convert biab files, from memory, optional extra.
I have it, but I prefer to do mine manually, more control over what you end up with.
best wishes
