|
|
I'm seriously thinking about adding a ESX to my setup.
In theory, Ableton Live has many more features and spec wise should be far superior to the ESX.
But in a practical sense, I am finding the ESX far easier to use.
I don't have to think as hard when using the ESX; because it is so similiar to my EMX.
I know Ableton Live is supose to be this great tool for on-the-fly editing...
but I'm just not feeling it.
Maybe I'm over thinking it or something; but the whole warp marker thing is killing me.
Any thoughts out there... _________________ "Secret to Electribes: push all the buttons, turn all the knobs, record what sounds good!" |

after extensive experience in both ableton AND esx/emx my conclusion is Ableton>>>>>then both.... but the boxes do help out ableton a lot... so you would not be at loss if you got the box and later decided that u'd prefer them for controll...
anyways after extensive use of ableton for over a year now I have became as fluent and fast at composing music as on the elctribes.... it's just got a lot more stuff to learn so it will take longer to get used to.... everything you can do on the electribes you can do within ableton but better, the only thing better in the electribes is the instant sequencing and the brilliang layout of knobs and other controlls which with some extensive midi knowledge can be recreated within ableton live with a cheap controller(AND BETTER then on the electribes).... I'll tell you right now, you can make your own electribe within ableton with just a korg microKONTROL which I got for 200 bucks... on top of that you can do this without any extra programs or anything, just tweak the midi assignments on the micro kontroll.... just setup the live set(once you learn ableton of course) and map everything....
so the point is, if you master ableton which will take longer, you will dump the electribes and find better way to do things, you'll still make use of them but they wont be primary. and besides on the electribes there is no such thing as warping(at least not like in ableton) all the sample effects are created differently... if you want send me a private message and I'll make you a set demonstrating some cool sample stuff in ableton....
[EDIT] IMPORTANT NOTE::: don't get me wrong, both of the electribes are very impressive hardware machines, they are just a little bit outdated and with some creativity software can beat it... |
