|

Hello! I have owned a Roland D-20 since 1994. I don't play well, but like to tickle the keys once in a while. The D-20 is getting very tired. I am thinking of replacing it with an M50.
Dumb question warning!
When I bought my D-20 I also subscribed to Keyboard Magazine. I found patches for the D-20 advertised in the magazine from a company named Valhala. (Yeah, no double 'L'.) The patches form Valhala were great! They beat those that came with the D-20 by miles. There was a one rank pipe organ that sounded great. I would love to get my hands on somehting like that for the M50.
I downloaded the manuals and scanned them, but am still not sure if my question is answered in there. I read a lot in this forum too.
I've been searching on-line and in Keyboard mag (recently re-subscribed) for patches- for any synth. It's obvious that the technology and terminology has passed me by. What should I look for to find 3rd party sounds or patches for an M50?
Thanks, - Dave |

With the number of sounds and patches on the M50 you may never need any more! There are dozens of very impressive organs (traditional, B3, BX3, Vox etc) just to start with.
However, should you need them, there are loads of free patches available for the M50 (it will load Korg M3 patches too) from Korg themselves, Karma-Lab user library and elsewhere.
If you are coming from a D-20 (great board in it's day) you've got a very pleasant surprise in store when you hear the M50! _________________ Korg M50-88, Nord Electro2 73, Roland JV-90

Thanks, FifthElement! I was convinced the M50 would suit me very well, but needed the added boost. I'll be comparing prices and plan to order a -61 in the next couple of days. Are the patches that can be loaded onto the M50 of file type *.PCG?
I do plan on buying the Karma software for the M50.
Where on Korg's site can additional patches be found? Can you give me a couple examples of "elsewhere" where 3rd party patches can be found?

Hi Dave!
Yes, the M50 is able to load *.PCG programs (!) M3 Combis won't work very well as many of them are 'KARMA-fied'. For information on where to find additional programs, look here:

Hey cabobs,
Thanks very much. Lots of good info in that thread. Guess I'd better order my M50 today!

Yep, that thread is a good starting point for pcg finding.
And don't forget the free classic keys collection from Korg:

Maybe a sticky should be set up in this forum with all the links to third party pcgs and combis? _________________ Korg M50-88, Nord Electro2 73, Roland JV-90

Thanks, FifthElement! Yes, a sticky would definitely be a good idea. With something in the subject like "Add to me...".
