It's my opinion that the Buttons/surface on the Kronos isn't very gig friendly on a dark stage. Especially if you have a 2nd board mounted above! Outside of the screen, it's hard to make out much of anything.
Since there are 2 Regular USB ports on the back, I'm thinking a nice USB LED light or two could be the perfect solution.
Assuming the Kronos adheres to standard USB spec, is there any reason why this wouldn't be safe to use?

As long as the light doesn't take more than 500mA (2.5W) you'll be within spec.

I'm sure Sina will come in here and talk about how he has 10,000watt blue led octopus arms on all 40 of his Kronos and Oasis'.
They cost $1000 each and money is no object when you have unlimited budget and an imaginary sugar daddy to provide it. _________________ KORG KRONOS 61 |

I also use them (not on stage but in the rehearsal room) ... works fine.
Cost: 3 euro (in the Netherlands). _________________

You can take 500mA from each port. For instance, I use an unpowered DVD drive on the K61 which plugs into both ports in order to share the current. It says 2A on the drive but that's probably when it's writing. No problems so far, including installing a 120GB drive which took ages to load the system from the factory DVDs.

I use a couple I bought at a Dollar store. So far no problems. _________________ "To me the synthesizer was always a source of new sounds that musicians could use to expand the range of possibilities for making music."

PS- I also use a UPS for power failure protection. Waiting to see how well it holds up in a true emergency situation. _________________ "To me the synthesizer was always a source of new sounds that musicians could use to expand the range of possibilities for making music."

If it runs a DVD from the usb's then the lights should not be a problem. Couple of things, shame that Korg didn't,t put a VHS out on the board, but I,m kinda hoping that if the editor, or either the iPad connections can be achieved this may solve a huge problem with both screen size and not being able to relay it to a bigger display.? Ie iPad, and certainly when it's under another 1 or two boards this would be great. Could be a huge advantage. I like to have my best board on the bottom run, so this would be a great benefit _________________ Making music is a passion, not a choice of lifestyle |
