yeah, i'm having no luck with this spreadsheet in excel 2008 for mac, i'll try openoffice and see if I can get anywhere with that--
even blind experimentation for the wavedrum mini sounds cool!
**** EDIT:
got the spreadsheet open with NeoOffice-- i'm not sure what to do with the txt file from you waterdrum though.... how do I import it into the spreadsheet? |

hi lessbones
good you could open the file ,
so there is no more excuse for Applemac users
that they cannot open XLS files...
@Kaden
I received a mail from freestok ,
and understood , that OpenOffice opens the file as intended ..
Now for MINI:
as long as nobody deciphers the Mini parameter system ,
everything is only try and error .
after deciphering there is one more necessary step :
a module that writes your changes back to a new soundbank.
(possible for Silver ? )
Whos gonna make that for the Mini ?
NOT me , probably not You and not Midisaron .
As long as you cannot readout some MINI data by hand
you cannot make reverse coding for a read module easily .
--> + what you want then is even a write module
Who ????
it would be easier to directly hack inside the hex editor
and then listen to the results ...
Import :
Copy/paste content of the hex.txt file into field "A1" of the tab "HEX"
(as described in the 2nd post of this thread...)
(after you deleted the previous contents of "A1" , of course )
I know , everybody has different preferences , but ,
As I have written earlier already :
get a used Silver (and a small looper + a car battery) ,
modify it to the max (2 triggers , EXP pedal, ext card , 12 Volt input)
and you will be happy all over with this "MINI SUPER DELUXE"
I myself cannot spend time on a "Preset player"
sorry for these news , dont shoot the messenger

What does cell C2 on sheet 'Listing' display? 0000 or #NAME? The formula in that cell should be:
=MID($HexString.$A$1;A2*2+1;4)
If this cell displays correctly 0000, what's in cell D2 on the same sheet? It should be 0, and the formula should be:
=IF(HEX2DEC(C2)<32768;HEX2DEC(C2);HEX2DEC(C2)-65536)
If this works so far, look at cell C3 on sheet 'Matrix'. It should also display 0, with the formula:
=INDEX($Listing.$D$2:$D$5401;$A3*54+C$1+1;1)
This is Open Office format. In Excel, there's an exclamation mark instead of the full stop between Listing and $D$2.
Hm, maybe Excel doesn't like the $ before Listing? If there are no #NAME errors on sheet 'Listing', you could try and delete that $. |

so have we determined definitively that the same algorithms do not exist for both the wavedrum and the mini? I understand that it is just a "preset player" which is a bummer, but if the mini DOES share DNA with the original wavedrum then maybe its possible to simply port over some sounds from the original version.
even if it isn't, I'm still interested in being able to edit the mini's sounds, even if it is totally random (which could be interesting) because I find it's form factor more convenient for what i'm doing |

Ladies and Gentlemen,
finally here it is: the spreadsheet based Wavedrum Editor!
Download a description here:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?tf4vf27hpi792ce
Download the editor (Open Office Calc format) here:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?q56d119fppths8j
Basically it's a spreadsheet that lets you edit Wavedrum (Silver and Oriental) sounds. It can read the sound parameters from the Wavedrum's MicroSD card and write edited sounds to the card (indirectly, a hex editor is still required).
Please download, try thoroughly, let me know what you think, report bugs, make suggestions etc. etc. |

Ha, first issue found!
In the user's guide, in chapter "how to start", I wrote that you can start right away if your user bank's sounds are still identical with the factory bank. For the Oriental this is not quite true. After selecting "Oriental" on sheet "Model", you need to click once on the button "Import sound bank" on sheet "HexString". This will copy the Oriental factory sounds to your user sound bank.
Thanks to WaterDrum for pointing me at this. |

Thank you , Midisaron , for this phantastic editor .
Its running with a German version of OOffice
Perfectly ...
I especially like the automatic copy to clipboard function ... cool
With / without access to the SD Card ,
the "edit single sound" page shows all sound parameters
and makes a much better starting point for editing a sound .
any French OpenOffice users ? |

Yeah I confirm all is working fine here
The editor is quite easy to use, and I'm free to print or to save directly.
Good work! |

after a closer look at the editor ...
so many details , really good
just finished an experiment
In the hexeditor I copied a list of the names from "view all sounds"
to the end of a Prog file
my Wavedrum was happily working with this extended file
no probs
is it possible in OpenOffice to read and write this data as well ?
then the user sound names could be included
in this "advanced soundbank" |

I just bought (only 2 weeks now) a Wavedrum WD-X (Silver), and I'm still studying and learning to use the instrument. Many sonic possibilities!
I was surprised to find this amazing topic about editing. Fantastic work done here!
I believe that it is still early to open the Wavedrum, since I'm starting to explore the possibilities only now (and the instrument is in full warranty period). However, as for me deeper into the use of WD, I will start investigating the possibilities for spreadsheet editing and recording to SD card too.
Congratulations for the excellent work! |

Before I start messing with my new (to me) WaveDrum Global:
. . . Does it have an SD card?
. . . Does the spreadsheet editor work with it?
Thanks --
