|
|
Trying to get midi in from my korg ms20 knobs in to ableton but having no luck.
I can play the keyboard and get midi notes in, just not when I move the filter etc.
I'm trying to use as a hardware controller for a soft synth (omnisphere)
I downloaded the driver from orgs site, but when I run it it says can't install.
Mac osx 10.15.6
Driver - 1.2.5.r2
Any ideas?
Thanks |

Hi,
About the driver, I can not comment as I don't own the MS20 mini nor a Mac.
About the MIDI messages. The MS20 only sends out note events.
As the board is almost fully analog, the filter knobs and others are in fact potmeters immediately tweaking the analog circuit. Hence they can not appear as MIDI CC events.
The keybed sends out MIDI events internally that gets converted to control voltage to the oscillators. With this architecture, it also allows the MS20Mini to receive external MIDI note events.
Have fun. _________________ microKORGXL, Kaossilator Pro, monotribe, SQ-1, volca fm, Kross 88 BK

Too bad for you... But hey, you have a real analog product at your hands.
Because probably OmniSphere is confusing the the MS20 Mini with the Korg MS20 Legacy controller.
The latter is purely a MIDI controller which on itself does not produce any sounds but needs a soft synth on a PC to produce sound. E.g. the Korg MS20 Legacy software. Or your DAW.
On this controller each knob does send MIDI CC messages. Even patches send out some sort of SysEx (I guess) to control the MS20 Legacy software.
Now, Korg itself does not help either in trying to extend the MS20 legend by releasing spin-offs of the MS20 and give them almost the same name. MS20 Mini, MS20 Legacy Controller, MS20 Kit and MS20M. What's next?
