Unable sing along with a MP3 song using the Notes preset

Post by rmcdaniel222 »

Section 42 of the PA4x User Manual “Using the voice effects and harmonization” does not specify which mode to select in order to use the TC Helicon harmony feature. My goal is to use the vocal processor to produce three-part harmony as I play the chords and sing into a microphone as a MP3 song file is being played in one of the PA4x players. I tried using the vocal processor Notes preset in Style mode and WAS able to hear my voice in harmony but was unable to hear the MP3 player. I then changed the mode to Song Mode and WAS able to hear the MP3 player but was NOT able to hear my voice being harmonized using the Notes preset as I played a chord in the lower range. How can I hear the PA4x MP3 player output and at the same time hear my voice being harmonized using the vocal processor Notes preset? Thank you.

P546 - E20 manual wrote:Chordal harmonization, especially meant for Styles. You are expected
to play chords on the keyboard (the recognition zone depends on
the Chord Scan section). Chords are also received from the Chord
Sequencer.
Hence, Style Play Mode and also works when playing a Chord Sequence in that mode (OS3.1 only)

TCH does not recognise chords from MP3 files.

Would it be possible to use the MP3 (converted to a .wav, I guess) as a sampler file, and create a style that simply plays the sample from beginning to end with no alteration despite what you play on the keyboard, which would allow the harmonizer to follow LH chord input? Or a chord sequence prepared in advance...

Alternatively, why not add the harmonies to the mp3 in a DAW by actually singing them (if you can) or recording the harmonizer while the DAW plays the mp3, which would allow far more than simple block harmony and allow counterpoint or call and response, or any of the far more realistic harmony types you hear all the time?

There is SO much more to harmony than a harmonizer can do live, and if you are already using an mp3, easy enough to add...

Edit Your Voice Preset.
Use the Song Play Control pop-up menu to choose a source for chords or
notes controlling harmony in the Song Play mode - Chord Scan, Lower, Upper, Full (Originally there is Track 5).
Save edited VP in User area.
For more information read the Manual.
