Desk for Kronos and cover

Post by Bertotti »

I will make a tooled leather cover but that will take a long time it is a large machine. The desk however is in the works now. I am looking for input on dimensions. I have two maple butcher block counter tops I want to use 8 feet long x 24 inches wide x 1.5 inches thick. My research shows the desk for such a studio as mine being close to 39 inches wide. What do you all use?

NEW DOPE - Kronos spec page up at Korg.com

Dimensions: (W x D x H)
88-key: 57.28” x 16.18” x 5.71”
1,455 x 411 x 145 mm
73-key: 48.94” x 16.18” x 5.71”
1,243 x 411 x 145 mm
61-key: 41.42” x 14.25” x 5.28”
1,052 x 362 x 134 mm

Butcher block... Just INTO heavy? There are prefabbed alternatives. If you must DIY, look at some of the designs for features you might want, like rack spaces (rails are available) and monitor stands, and such.

I'm about to build my desk very soon. I have designed it in the Free version of Google Sketchup. I'm waiting for the plates to be chopped up by a professional this week. and I got the paint(shiny), screws and glue ready!
If you want my design in Sketchup format, send me a PM with your e-mail address. My design is ment for a 73 Key kronos. The kronos will fit below the table plate and will become like a drawer. The desk got place for computer like Mac Pro on either side. :)

I would love to see your design. As for the butcher block coutner top, one 8 foot board weighs a ton! I can't lift it on my own. I may wind up using something else but it is nice looking chunk of wood. I was going to make them into my shops work bench.

I already have the dimensions but I see some verying sizes out there so I was curious what everyone else uses. Thanks Guys/Gals.

My "studio" is primarily a home office (hobbyist musician here), so my setup has my M3-73 and my computer desk arranged in an "L" layout, with the M3 forming the short leg. The desk is a nice glass-and-cherry-colored-fiberboard affair from OfficeMax, complete with a hanging file drawer.

The M3 sits on an On-Stage Z-stand. I've got a Boss GT-10 multi-effects pedal beneath it (that doubles as a MIDI foot controller), and a second tier to the Z-stand that's just waiting for a second board... like a Kronos-61.
