I have to admit the new color for the Korg SV1 was also not that innovative but if competitors are 'stealing' such an innovative idea instead of really adding something, I fear for the future of Yamaha.

Korg makes also real innovations ... and sometimes a less 'real innovation' such as a different color.

If Yamaha would want to be cool, they either had to user a color never used before or use a 'skinnable' Tyros, but I can remember I saw a black keyboard/synth/workstation before.

I wonder what's up with Yamaha; it looks as if they have retired from the synth/workstation scene.

They kept stealing things from Korg...now even the Color? Embarassing.

IF only they would have added the 15 keys requested by many pro players...
But no, they did not add anything at all. Such a shame, innovation is not a part of Yamahas library for sure.

Yamaha stopped making synthesizers in 1998. There is no surprise in this.

And to the poster saying they copy Korg - you know that's not true. From the GX1 and CS80 to the GS1, DX1 & 7, SY77 & 99 and the VL1, Yamaha is responsible for among the most unique and significant of synthesizer legacies.

Alas they stopped with the EX5 in 1998 and have not continued with synthesizer development since then. The Motif is "dressed up" M1 S&S generation technology (and even more basic than the SY77 of 1990) so there is no innovation in it; nor are there any synthesis innovators left in Yamaha - they have all long since retired by now.

Yamaha is unlikely to return to synthesis development any time soon.

Kevin.

Yawn.... Yamaha....err... same recycled gear year in year out.

I miss the synth days when Yamaha were leaders in new tech.

Bachus, they're not going to make a 76 Tyros. Those things are aimed squarely at the 'home' market. There may be a handful of pros using them, but not in the numbers to warrant a 76.

I just have been watching a few clips featuring the EX-42, GX-1, the EX-1 and the VL-1, and I can't get over the quality of the sound of these instruments.
If you then look back at the past decade or so the contrast is striking.

The old generation of Yamaha engineers may have gone, but there's always a new generation to take its place, and looking at Yamaha's past achievements I can only hope that the current silence is just the silence before the storm.

I checked the Yamaha SY77 at that time but went for a N364. Then I bought a Triton Extreme, when buying the M50 I have thought about the Motif but it was too expansive (compared to the M50, but not comparable I know). And since the Kronos there was no real competition at all.

the diffrence between the gray tyros 4 and the black tyros 4 is that it is an anniversary edition.
it comes with an original certificate.
it comes originally with the factory speakers, an large flash memory and an vintage pack.

thats all xD
