Agreed, that is a cool track!
Admittedly, I have not delved as much as I want into MOD-7, because of my long lasting EXILE project. I do plan on digging in and including some programming demos on the next DVD.
Honestly, Billy....I have thought about programming and releasing a bank of MOD-7 sounds, utilizing more internal samples, doing the distortion modulation (RCM) process that Kevin likes. The OASYS can do those sounds and more. I would love it. It's just, like with all things - I have little time, at least right now.
With most of the EXILE songs, I have used MOD-7 for the bulk of the synth work. You will easily hear the impact on the compositions. I think some of Korg's programs are fantastic and really fit the kind of mix I created.
One thing to remember about SY/TG programming, is that HD-1 type and FM programs could freely mix. By that, I mean 4 stand alone programs could exist in a single 4 element patch. You could layer a piano program, a string section program and 2 FM elements (two 6 op synth programs) in a single program. Because of that kind of setup, a lot of those programs are stacks, where to do the same thing on the OASYS, requires using a Combi - but no MOD-7 Combis (that I know of) were made.
Of course, sample waves can be brought into MOD-7's PCM oscillator, but I'm referring to mixing finished programs.
