cubase5 with M3 editor V220

Post by abc111 »

Hi

I'm new to M3. When I launched the M3 editor from cubase I can see the M3 editor window and select M3 instrument but no sound coming out when I press the keyboard. Can someone tell me what I did wrong.

Thanks.

Have you connected the audio too? If you are have connected your M3 just with USB there won't be any sound to your computer, because the USB is just for MIDI and DATA. If you want to hear a sound you'll need to connect your M3's main outputs to your computer line input... of course you can use headphones or whatever method you have used before to listen your M3, but if you want to record something with your computer you'll need to connect the audio.

Yes, I have connected the audio cable from M3 output to my audio interface input and I'm able to hear the sound and able to record M3 audio from cubase. I think my problem is with M3 editor. Is there any specific configuration that need to do for M3 edidtor. I read through the M3 editor manual but its just have the gereric info.

Did you properly install Korg USB MIDI driver? Can you start M3 Editor in stand-alone mode and check that it works?

Yes, I installed M3's usb midi driver and it worked properly. I also launch editor in stand alone mode but its still the same issue.
I noticed when I presed any keys on the M3 or my MIDI controller keyboard and I can see the keyboard in the editor also pressed at the sametime but no sound coming out.

I don't think the editor allows direct monitoring of an audio input in standalone mode. Sounds like you're expecting to hear the synth from your computer when running standalone mode, right?

there are windows mixer options to route the audio input to the output, but you'd have to turn that off when you go into cubase or whatever.
when you are in cubase, you will need an audio track set to the input, with the 'monitor' (the little speaker) button switched on in order to route the audio input to hear it. the plug-in does not deal with any of the audio connections.
you would normally load the plugin into the device rack in cubase rather than an instrument channel. then you can instead create MIDI channels and route their output to the plugin's MIDI input. the VSTi device/instrument rack can be found in one of the menus (near to where you also find ASIO and other setup settings).

quickest solution would be to connect your speakers or headphones directly to the M3.

The M3 Editor is a MIDI input/output application for use in conjunction with editing and selecting paraameters on the M3. It has no sound capabilities by itself. When you press keys on the M3 Editor virtual keyboard, or send MIDI notes to the VSTi version, MIDI notes are forwarded to the M3. The M3 generates the sounds.

The benefit of having the M3 editor "in circuit" as a VSTi is the convenience it gives for editing Programs and Combis, any edits done on the computer are communicated to the M3, also via MIDI.

Hence you will never "hear" anything from the M3 Editor, only from your M3 keyboard.

Korg do make a sound generator VSTi based on the M1 synth. The sounds are generated on the PC. There is currently a free version called M1le bundled by Korg USA with the PadKontrol.

Hi All

After I routed the mdi output to M3 I'm able to get the sound from M3. However this will only give me one specific voice on one midi track.

Example , when I recorded the piano voice on midi track one and then I switch to midi track two for a bass voice but as soon as I changed to the bass voice the midi track one also changed to the bass. I hope this explained what I tried to do here. I would like to use cubase to for sequencer.

Is there an M3 script for cubase that I can download from or if is there a way in M3 editor that I can use as I have an M3 script.

Thanks

What MIDI channels were assigned to the tracks. Betcha they were both playing on Channel 1. You need the Bass track to be on Midi channel 4 ideally.
