New Spider-Woman theme song, featuring the OASYS
Recently, I wrote & recorded a theme song for Marvel's new series of Spider-Woman motion comics, with Anna Abbey on vocals and my friend Parry Gripp on guitars. All of the synths are from the OASYS, naturally; drums are from Stylus RMX. Out of respect to Anna, I should note that the extreme vocal pitch effects were part of the spec; her pitch was great to begin with, and it was necessary to add the glitches manually.
Marvel created a video for the song, which is now on YouTube - check it out if you're interested!

Congratulations Dan -
The Youtube video is magnificent, song is absolutely top-notch and the OASYS sounds are incredibly good and current. You're some song writer. Absolutely brilliant. Wish you great success with this song and venture.
A technical question – those vocal glitches – are they done on the OASYS, and is so how ? (sorry to ask such a techie question but really curious about that).
Kevin.

Good stuff, Dan.
I would have liked to hear the synths up in the mix more, at the expense of the drums, but that's just me. It sounds great. :-]
And Kevin, it's clear to me that one of the commercially-available pitch-shifting programs were used to do the classic vocal tuning things. It's not the O. Thanks Dan, for pointing out that it was an effect, and not actually needed by the singer!

I had to hit the "Replay" for this one!
I like everything about it - the video, the pitch shifting, chord changes, sound and overall energy. Let me put it this way, this song is not something to just make a nice comment about, but rather one I could include with my favorite music and listen to it over and over! Excellent!

Thanks for all of your kind words!
.
John (jg) is right: I used Melodyne, running on a Mac. Melodyne is lovely for its ability to do exactly the opposite of this effect; when used skillfully and judiciously, it's capable of astonishingly natural-sounding results. I had to deliberately override its normal note detection in order to create the glitches. It's not my usual approach, but in this context I'm pleased with the results - and if the client's happy, I'm happyKevin Nolan wrote:A technical question – those vocal glitches – are they done on the OASYS, and is so how ? Dan the Man!
Outstanding! This sounds pro all the way...from the mix (Oasys wasn't the focus--vocals were, as it should be) to the arrangement to the composition. Very cool, indeed. I keep listening to it.
I think, at times, that I take for granted that there are a lot of seriously capable and very talented folks on this forum. This piece of music makes me want to sound as good as I possibly can on my own CD...but heck, Dan, you've raised the bar outta my reach!! **BRAVO**
**BRAVO**
I'm gonna go listen to it again!

Keep the tunes churnin' buddy. This is great stuff!!
Best regards,
David
