MAX/MSP - commonly just referred to as Max. Its a modular programming language aimed at music - MIDI (actually based on the OSC architecture) and audio processing.
But its not just a modular synthesizer software like Synthedit or Reaktor, its actually a very deep visual programming language, where the relationship between function blocks is represented visually instead of by lines of code.

for most people using it, its a kind of love/hate relationship. It's very powerful, great as a prototyping tool, but some people actually use it to create finished standalone products too.

I'm thinking this would be a killer combination on an open machine like lionstracs or openlabs.

give a look first IF this application is midi/ASIO compatible or will not work on mediastation system.
On Wine is installed only the wineasio driver.
The application must work in standalone version with ASIO driver OR VST under VstHost.
Only with this features we are able to running multiple ASIO host, with other audio/midi drivers then we lose the audio card, it mean: only one application at once ( windows issue)

Nice video James.
question..do you have used the OS 3?? or you have only changed the desktop image?
The Live Arranger not work on OS 3 and also the MS apps package are compiled for Ubuntu 9.10.
Do I have now some to learn from you how you mix the OS?.. :D

Hi Domenico.
question..do you have used the OS 3??
No that's just the desktop image. I have been making new ones and changing the display to test them out, so I must have just left it on an old one afterwards.

I must upload the images I made actually. People might like to have them.

hi James
we are working for the next OS update and we have found some that can fix the sampler crash.

Sometime, when you running big files and HOLD the sustain pedal, can happen that the sampler crash.
We have found that on LIONSTRACS OS system the sampler was never setting on default, with open voice+HD streaming at 760 Voice.

the sampler was crash NOT for the code bug, but for the Hardware/HD bandwich limitation.
here the linuxsampler specifications: http://www.linuxsampler.org/api/lscp-1. ... T%20VOICES
and aslo look the set streaming.

Now I have include this two setting on the MS-02-device.lscp file and seem working much better with also always the sustain pedal in hold.
Here the file link update: http://www.lionstracs.com/demo/qsampler ... ces-1.lscp

added the two lines:
SET VOICES 256
SET STREAMS 300

I think are enough for the almost MS user, IF you need more voice, add there how much you need, but then also test IF your HD/CPU can support it.

You can also editing manually this file, is located on this path:
usr/mediastation/current/bin/MS-01-devices-1.lscp
double click the file, will be open with Kwrite, add the same text two line and SAVE the file
Restart the players and test if for you is OK.

IF you find a better voice solution just let me know that I will include on the new OS update.
( is a open system or not? edit two line, double your Voice sampler...to MUCH easy.. )
cheers

Excellent, thanks for that Domenico.
That's also very handy to know too considering the prices of Solid State Disks is dropping all the time.

Yes, Solid state disk are pretty fast, but still to much expensive.
I suggest to use the RAID system, still cost less:
http://www.lionstracs.com/store/raid-sata2-p-249.html

about the voice limits:
Voice on Linuxsampler mean Stereo voice, so 256 sampler voice mean automatically 512 mono voices!
You can see also on qsampler, when you press one key and will play ONE note, the giga file is recorded on Stereo mode and you wil see playing 2 voice.

For that I mean that 256 Voice on default are enough for the basic system.

Ah...saw your LSCP video
http://www.irishacts.com/lionstracs/lapcgen.htm
AMAZING! Bravo, compliment!
Note: you have also to add the Volume setting for each sound or they wil play at full level!
look again my LSCP file configuration.
cheers

Sweet...!!!!
I'm going to be installing my 194GB Platinum Plus edition of THIS in the next few days. Should be interesting to see how my single HDD, 4GB of RAM and Dual Core manages with the library.

I know a library like this require the fastest PC you can afford to buy, but it still should be interesting nonetheless to see how the keyboard manages with such an insanely heavy library to run.

:) Thanks for the tip.
I will go though your breakdown of the LSPC again. I must actually make a check list because there's a few things I would like to eventually do with the program.

When I get it to the point where it can build and modify banks I'll release it. After that point people can suggest things and in time it can grow from there on. I can just issue update patches which update the program so there won't be any need to un-install / install version and so on.

Need to add an Import option too so it will edit existing libraries too.

James

Ciao james
I get your email, but was to late.. Feature already made, SVN rev 1924:

Here the example c++ code that we wrote how to display the all GM and GS sounds on the 10 Groove/MS family patch sounds:
Patch_Source_GMGIGA::~Patch_Source_GMGIGA() {
}

static QString _getFamilyName(int iProgram) {
if (iProgram < 0)
return "Invalid";
if (iProgram < 4)
return "Piano GIGA";
if (iProgram < 16)
return "Electric Piano GIGA";
if (iProgram < 24)
return "Organ GIGA";
if (iProgram < 32)
return "Guitar GIGA";
if (iProgram < 48)
return "Strings GIGA";
if (iProgram < 64)
return "Brass GIGA";
if (iProgram < 72)
return "Reed GIGA";
if (iProgram < 80)
return "Flute GIGA";
if (iProgram < 96)
return "Synth GIGA";
return "FX & ORIENTAL SOUNDS";
}

#define LINUXSAMPLER_HOST "localhost"
#define LINUXSAMPLER_PORT 8888

void Patch_Source_GMGIGA::reloadPatchListByLscp() {
category_array.clear(); // clean old data (if any)

// we add the categories first here, so they are in the order we need,
// because the order is linked to the sequence of category buttons on
// the Groove keyboard panel
add_category_internal("Piano GIGA");
add_category_internal("Electric Piano GIGA");
add_category_internal("Guitar GIGA");
add_category_internal("Strings GIGA");
add_category_internal("Brass GIGA");
add_category_internal("Flute GIGA");
add_category_internal("Organ GIGA");
add_category_internal("Reed GIGA");
add_category_internal("Synth GIGA");
add_category_internal("FX & ORIENTAL SOUNDS");
add_category_internal("Drum Sets GIGA");

So, you can use for your tool too.
Another new...now on LSCP file we can also include the all variation ( programs) sounds inside the .gig file and the MS display under GIGA GM/GS will display too.
here the new shot:
Image

Where:
073 Piccolo Std = original name of the .gig file, if you edit the name of the original file, will display there.
[0] = sound program inside the .gig file ( all my ,gig sounds have only one sound inside, it mean Prg 0

PRG= program change number
VAR = GS Variation
TYPE = GM/GIG .gig format.

MAYBE tomorrow we include another NICE Info feature:
Image

This you have when you select the GIGA solo and then EDIT mode.
Will include the GIG sound info when you select it, with:
Giga File Size: Mb/Gb
Active Voice: Voice that are current in use xxx
Active Disk Stream: HD voice in use xxxx
Memory RAM available: 61Mb ...
Memory RAM Used: 59Mb ....

How I told, NOT sure that tomorrow is included, first we ahve to fix some other bug/feature on list...BUT if we include, now is more interesting.Image
