I think you'll find that all professional keyboard synths and modules have MIDI input and output.
But I don't think the microKorg is the best choice. Particularly in the case of multi-stringed MIDI guitars, they tend to transmit each string on a different channel - so you'd have to effectively set up 4 or 6 of the same program, one for each string. The microKorg can only respond to one channel at once. Even the Radias only goes up to four timbres.

Hmm, anyth other $350~ synths, non-analog and no keys (im thinking of getting a virus b)X-Trade wrote:I think you'll find that all professional keyboard synths and modules have MIDI input and output.

I've got a Virus B here and I have used it with a MIDI guitar in the past.
I since sold the MIDI guitar but I can confirm it works great. In its 'multi' mode you can assign 16 sounds to all 16 MIDI channels. so setting up the first six timbres with the same monophonic lead works really nice for guitar work.

Until I get a better understanding of the voice channels I will probably be buying Reaktor 5 (which I can then feed into Logic once I expand) because my computer is more than equipped with voice counts
And buying synths from '99 is probably not the exact direction I had in mind either, even though the Virus C is so damn affordable

The virus is much more capable than the microKorg. It is more on a par with the Radias. conversely the microKorg is about as old as the Virus.
I'm a reaktor 5 user and I can tell you it is much more complicated, especially if you want to get it working with a MIDI guitar.
MIDI channels (not really voices at all. voices in professional MIDI speak would relate to the polyphony or how many notes a synthesizer can play at once for example in a chord). are really very simple. for a MIDI guitar you'll need as many channels as you have strings. MIDI transmits up to 16 channels. The virus is capable of playing a sound on each of those 16 channels at once. the microKorg can only play on one channel at once. The radias can play up to four channels at once. most workstations will also play on all 16 channels. the microX is a workstation spinoff that will also work nicely with a MIDI guitar and has a much wider variety of sounds - from pianos to synths to drums.
But more typically if you were working with sequencing, you'd have your bass on one channel, your piano on another, your drums on another, etc... it is just a way of defining which notes go where.
Reaktor is definately fantastic though! particularly with the new 5.5 beta upgrade.
