KP3 - SD CARD Specs

Post by Babag76 »

Hi Everybody.
I'm new into this forum so greetings to everybody!
I'm from Italy (Milan), I love electronic music and I own some pieces of hardware (MC909, MC307, Electribe) and now I got a brand new KP3 to use it as a multieffect processor.

Because i'm planning to buy a SD Card, I was wandering if i can get more GB instead of the reccomended 2 and if there's a particular SD model i can buy.

Thnx to everybody for your kind help
regards

does it matter which model you get? is there any difference between different models?

The KP3 doesn't read at high speed, so there is no advantage to getting a really high spec card.

I have a 2GB Kingston card, but it is very slow to load and I'm thinking of getting a smaller card and seeing if samples load faster.

and you will never fill up a 2GB card with the small samples the KP3 holds. It can only load files with certain filenames, like 1.wav, 2.aiff, 3.kp3, so even if you had thousands of samples on the card, you couldn't use them!

What he said.

And isn't 2GB the limit for SD cards anyway?

I thought so too, but Wikipedia tells me it's 4GB. There are SDHC cards, which are the same physical dimensions as SD, but with more capacity. Dunno if the KP3 can use them though.

But I think we agree that a 2GB card is definitely large enough for a KP3 - I think I'll give mine to the missus for her camera and use a smaller card for my KP3

Yep. 2GB shouldn't be a problem for the vast majority of KP3 users because of the proprietary format it uses. Even if it used .wav though, it would still be a fair bit. Not ideal for a proper sampler though.

I have three proper samplers, one uses 1.44MB floppies, and one uses 128MB smartmedia, so a 2GB SD card looks luxurious compared with either of them!

the third has a 60GB hard disk though, so I do agree, I'm just being contrary :)

Thnx for your replies!

The problem here is to find a standard SD 2gb...my store starts from 4gb and more

The question was if the KP3 can read cards bigger than 2gb...did anyone try it?

bye

It might read a 4GB SD card (if there really is such a thing) but I doubt very much that it will read anything more, as they will be SDHC cards, not just SD.

And Mr o' Muppets, I have an MC-909 that uses SmartMedia too. And I've only got a 32MB card. I manage fine with that. Just depends what you do and how you like to work, I suppose.

The KP3 can only read Sd cards (2gb and under) not SDHC.
