Home for this evening...,
The backlight still has the few "grainy" patches showing thru...otherwise still fine...all other repairs great!!!...(all >major< buttons, a few others,..battery, and drive clean and check...)
Done by Pro Tech Services repair branch....will write a bit sometime..They are exactly halfway between Pansacola and Tallahassee, FL...near Panama City, (Home of the sheriff depts., ("ex")-("boot camp"...).
Regards, John

Had another inq. on the backlight..was pointed that I had not updated my own experience recently..
Inq. was on Triton, and I have no idea if it works out o.k. but I would think so..
In any event, mine remains just great, and I would do it again right now, rather than the alternative, where there have been problems for some with early failure, some in only a year...
Best Regards, Always, John (ellll)

Sorry,
Forgot this...Had a message awhile back asking the voltage on mine, and never told here...
The tech who did mine says it is 1.7 volts, and from a source other than the orig, which she felt might be too great....I do recall the material for use in signs, runs on about 3-4 volts....
Again, mine could be a tad brighter....(remember the adj. on-board only adj. the CONTRAST...)

I finally replaced the backlight on my 01/Wfd. The replacement had a silver bezel instead of the factory black, and while you can see it at certain angles, it's not that big of deal. The problem is the whining, which I never had before. I switched the polarity but that didn't fix it. It's really gettin on my nerves.

WoW...This is a surprise to me...,
The system I used employs just the thin sheet of current reactive material, and is very accepting of very low voltage supply, and the current is almost not measurable..so it is quiet, of course...
I have NOT heard of any niose generated by backlights before...and hope someone will explain this sometime...
Hope you can get by this some way!!!

Here's some info from the 01/W on line guide:
"Annoying Whine"
Some users have reported that their display emits an "annoying whine". (Be careful not to confuse this with another reported whine that can come from the power supply.) One user reports he stopped this whine by reversing the polarity of the backlight on the LCD.
How to reverse the polarity (thanks to Mike Werning, who wrote:)
"You don't have to disconnect any circuit boards, just remove the bottom panel on the 01 to get to the insides. The connector is located right next to the main board on the power supply board. It is a 4-pin connector with only the two outside pins populated. I believe its designator is CN16 (01W/fd) on the power supply board. Since the connector is keyed, you cannot simply unplug the connector rotate it 180 degrees and re-plug it in. You must disconnect the connector, pull out the pin receptacles on the connector and swap the positions. It's simple to do. Just use a jewelers screwdriver to depress the lock tabs on each pin to release them. Once you have swapped the pins and reinserted them into the connector housing, plug it back in to the main board. That's it."

Hello Friends...
Quick update...after 2.6 years of pretty constant use...and a period of a couple of months on 24 hrs a day...
The backlight material mentioned by me for my O1Wfd, in the orig. post is as always...; very serviceable.
A SLIGHT bit dim for me.., (wrong voltage points selected..; voltage too low at about 1-1.7 volts...), but very serviceable for the cost..and I suspect it will last for a very long time...perhaps forever.
The only problem was a couple of smudges from body oil from handling, the tech got on the material, while cutting it out... It just makes a slight diff. in the color when looked at closely.
I would do it again in a minute, for the economical cost
Regards, ellll

O.K, Friends...(!,?)!!!,
So there is another thread on this backlight issue now!!!!!!! And a quick check will readily show a LARGE interest in the older..(and better sounding...) units IN GENERAL; ana. or otherwise...
So lets keep these old Korg items in our minds and not let them Just "Fade Away"..........
Best Regards, John (ellll)

Just a quick update....
Some may recall the material I sug. here... had a couple of spots that varied in appearance from handling...
That effect is now gone...!!! and the light output remains same...(but in my case too low...as it is at 1-1.25 volts from the source the tech used... Should be over 2 volts , she now says...

The backlight I purchased from Synthlights (which I installed on my 01R/W) is still shining bright.
HOWEVER, the LCD Display (from Telesis) I installed on my 01/WFD 3 years ago has developed two lines across the screen. One vertical, one horizontal. Since the installation I've only the unit a total of MAYBE 2 hours. I'm really upset about this. That's 130 bucks down the drain. Not to mention the time I spent on the install.
