is it true newer m3' have one gig of ram, expandable to 2 gigs?

Nope, that's not true... Maybe you're referring to the fact, that newer units ship with a 1 GB SD card instead of a 256 MB one. It's an internal card containing the operating system and basic patches/samples.

RAM has never gone above 256 MB.

The question is..
Why if the PA3X use the EXB-256M as "equivalent to 512MB linear data" , the M3 OS can't be "upgraded" to the same system ?
