Synthesist dream come true

Post by aron »

This keyboard is amazing. Assignable controls to almost every parameter - via physical controller or MIDI with positive or negative offsets. Polysix, DX7, MS-20, AL-1, this keyboard is the first one (in recent history) that I really feel deserves a lot of time with - to explore the incredible capabilities. The OASYS must have been so ahead of it's time.

This keyboard is so much more than just a "workstation". I don't even care about the sequencer. This keyboard brings me back to when I was using the DX7/Oberheim Expanders and Buchla Synthesizers at SJSU.

AWESOME KORG!

If you like the Kronos... the Oasys is a masterpiece as it was born of pure inspiration. Kronos is nice but the inspiration really is the outgrowth of the Oasys. All hail the Oasys!

I've been kicking myself ever since I had the money to get an OASYS back in 2005. I expected - wrongly - that eventually the price would drop. And then, boo-hoo on me, the money went away, as it always does.

The Kronos is a chance to finally have an OASYS, and more. And a warranty. Always a great combo. Or Combi.

Without the sequencer, it is just a synth and not a workstation. And the M3 has a better sequencer.
Tool box: Kronos 61, Fantom FA06, ASR-10, MPCX, MPC Live, and MPC 4000.

jahrome,

Your posts regarding the Kronos have seemed to go from all positive, earlier, to all negative, now. If you are so unhappy with it/them, why have you not just returned them and bought something else? Have I read this incorrectly and you are happy with the Kronos?

I see nothing negative in his post. It's the truth.

Yes, you are correct. It was a general comment and I should probably have asked the question in a more relevant thread.

Well i think that is quite an excessive statement..

is the Kronos a great collection of useful synths in one box?.. absolutely. if you could only have one keyboard to do everything you HAD to do would it be the Kronos?.. probably...but when i dream of synths..its not this...

The interface with the synth is still sterile in the Kronos ... and i appreciate it needs to be for cost reasons...so i wont complain about the Kronos..but its nothing to dream about..

The synths I have GAS for all have one thing in common... you can directly interact with maximum of knobs buttons and sliders and the minimum of menu diving..

A waldorf Q, a Supernova II, a V-Synth GT, a Jupiter 6, Polyevolver, even a Virus all would give greater immediate feedback and satisfaction is sonic creation..
Korg PA4X, Nord Stage 3, Virus Ti Polar, Novation Nova II, Yamaha S70XS, MPC-X, TC Helicon Voicelive Rack, KRK VXT8 monitors, 2012 LP Standard, 1999 Am. hardtail Strat, Fender DRRI, Orange AD30HTC, Marshall Vintage Modern, 2 cans and a piece of string...

Well said. I'm digging my Roland Gaia. Its synth engine lacks complex modulation capabilities. But in terms of immediate sonic creation, it's a beautiful synth. No menu, no LCD screen. I haven't had this much fun playing a synth since I had an OB-X and a Jupiter 6 long time ago.
