Groove X-R!!!

Post by Ronnymusic »

Hello folks!
Asena and James (Sharp) are now at Rob Sherrat's home and I can't imagine what they are up to. But one thing do I know...This is about the Groove X-R!!!

But of course I couldn't have patience and wait any longer, since I'm not there but in Norway (sadly), far far away from Corfu :(... I made someone whisper in my ear (No corruption :3dangel:)

I've already ordered one for me from Asena, YOU should do as well!

For those who does not know what this unit is...This is the dream and the machine every musician has ever dreamed about to marry with (I'm sure your wife will accept a second wife :D)..Back to serious information now.

Someone whispered in my ear and told me that, this machine has:
- Sequencer (something like for example Logic studio)
- Style maker
- Style remixer
- Sound designer
- VST host 12 st Stereo
- DLL compatible (for example "fx.dll)
- Professional effects/fx
- Giga file player
- 3 000 sounds ready
- Arranger mode
- Synth mode
- Combi mode
- Asio host mode

I got something from the man I paid to whisper in my ear, and I was amazed!!! (just kidding with the part where I paid someone :P)... Well, this machine loads a sound very fast. Faster than I have ever seen or heard of. For example, lets say you load a piano sample (270 mb), then it will load faster in than 2 sec.

Truly I'm amazed, and I've heard this machine has more features!

At last I'll say only one word: FUTURE!

Let the ball roll around!

Best Regards,
Ronny Menmi

Hi Ronny,

Hello from Timur and me from Corfu.

We were on SKYPE video together with James (Sharp) yesterday, but alas James is currently in Ireland fixing the forum among other things. Having said that, just a week ago James and I met up with Domenico and Christian at the Lionstracs factory in Merano, Italy. Although things are really hectic, it is a great time for all of us now that units are beginning to ship.

The first release of the Groove X-R provides the following features which I have amplified from your list. The other features from your list might be added in the future, but we can not sell promises that may never be fulfilled:

GROOVE X-R OS release 5.3

- Audio & MIDI Sequencer (Energy XT from XT Software)
- Sound designer (GigEdit)
- VST host Stereo, ten host canvasses to play multiple plug-ins on
- Professional effects/fx
- Multimedia file player (MID, MP3, MP4, KAR, WAV)
- 756 sampled factory sounds preinstalled
- capacity for over 10,000 sounds to be added
- Sampler mode (16 part multitimbral), 512 polyphony
- Synth mode (16 part multitimbral), polyphony limit not tested
- ASIO / VSTi mode (ten playgrounds)
- Combi mode (each combi may mix up to ten sounds from other engines)

There is a full .pdf specification that may be downloaded by anyone, that is published here, no need to rely on rumours in future :-)

Rob

Hello again Ronny,

At great expense a highly skilled translator worked day and night, to produce this Swedish language version of the Groove X-R publicity leaflet just for you, ... and the other 2 million musicians in Sweden :-) Feel free to pass it on, you will do us a great favor!

Hello Rob, James and Timur!
Great video, I can't really wait to have it in my hands.
However I will pass on the "Brochure" to my musician friends, not only sweden, but people I know from anywhere! :D

I'm unfamiliar with this unit - how does this compare with something like the Kronos or the OASYS? Or am i completely off and it's a whole different animal altogether? Because I do see some things that would never exist on a workstation.

Hi Gargamel,

It's best if you watch the videos here first, and I will try to answer anything not covered in the videos.

http://www.corcyraglobal.com/demo.html

Both the Kronos and OASYS have dedicated synth engines and limited internal memory and processor power. In general any samples have to be looped due to the memory constraints.

The Groove X-R is an open architecture for loading configuring and playing Plug-ins of your choice at gigs, plus it has a sampler based on disk streaming technology that means there is no memory constraint. Many of our sound samples are not looped at all, they are completely realistic recordings including a 25 second decay period. The current sample library is 20 GB in size and is growing. e.g. there are some top Bluthner grand pianos, each taking 400 Mbytes of samples in 5 layers.

Rob

What ever happened to this project?

The website is down for quite some time now and it now redirects to http://www.openoctave.org/ which is some kind of opensource Linux midi software

My company Corcyra Global Ltd is no longer trading with Lionstracs and we offered all our customers who purchased a Groove X-R a refund. I believe the Groove X-R is still being promoted by Lionstracs, at a heavily discounted price, but Corcyra Global Ltd is no longer involved and that is why we closed our own web site.

We are developing a new product ourselves - without Lionstracs' involvement. The new product is called "Open Studio Live" and it is a heavily customized 2U high 19 inch cabinet system running Windows 7 64 bit. We provide a 17 inch touch screen as standard. It has optimized hardware and software for musicians including a full 8 x 8 digital mixer and DAW capability with combi XLR/quarter inch sockets supporting both balanced and unbalanced 8x-inputs and 8x-outputs. There is a Firewire 400/800 option for those who need it, and S/PDIF and Word Clock inputs and outputs are standard. All DAW products for Windows 7 64 bit can be used. All Windows 64-bit and 32-bit plug in software can be used. All encryption systems work unmodified.

Integrated with the product and shipped as standard is the fantastic sound library that James (Sharp) originally developed for use with the Groove X-R. Also we ship Sonic Projects OP-X-Pro-II as standard. Users will of course install their own software and plug-ins as well. We also provide installation and configuration support for the "One Man Band" arranger which works well on our system, for those who want an arranger.

No details have been released to the public before now. This is the first time I've talked about it on a public forum.

The temporary link to Open Octave's web site will be removed this month. Open Octave software is not part of the Open Studio Live product, although the two teams did collaborate together for a short time to explore that option before we agreed that it was not something we would pursue further. Currently Open Octave is available for Linux enthusiasts, but Corcyra Global Ltd will not be providing a Linux system.

I am also willing to publish some pictures of the new unit if there is sufficient demand from forum members. However I don't want to upset those who regard this forum as "Korg products only". So if someone wants to start a thread called "Would you like to see pictures of "Open Studio Live?" then when there is enough support, I will publish pictures and a full specification ...

The new product is expected to be available in March, and a press event is being organized in London. If you live in the UK and want an invitation to the press launch event, just ask me?

Best regards,
Rob Sherratt

Seems like a good move to me. Lionstracs keeps innovating to much, almost changing their products entirely every 3 months, removing feautures and adding features on the run, they treat their instruments to much like a PC.

But then thats my opinion, and the reason i stuck to PC hardware instead of switching to a lionstracks solution.

I wish you all the luck, and i will be following the new product closely.

Wow,
almost a year of your time wasted, except for the fact that you did end up with a brilliant sound library.

By ONE MAN BAND, are you refferring to Jos Maas's software?
If so, it's certainly a good one. I've been using it on & off for many years, both as arranger & style editor for my yammie to korg conversions..

Good Luck .
best wishes

Hi Rikki,

Yes, where we are right now is:

Open Studio Live, developed by my company, comprising:
  • Windows 7 64-bit
VSTHost, Hosting Sonic Projects OP-X Pro II
LinuxSampler for Windows hosting James' sound library
    One Man Band v11.0
LoobBe (to connect OMB to Linux Sampler)
8-in 8-out audio hardware with Balanced/Unbalanced combi sockets
    low latency ASIO drivers
    AMD triple core processor
    8 GB RAM
Custom 2U cabinet with custom front panel OS based on Arduino
The systems will be shipped with all this pre-installed, licensed, and fully configured ready to go. Don't forget to vote on the other thread to give me permission to post pictures!

I am hoping to commission a new development in LinuxSampler and OMB to allow re-pitching of samples during a chord change. (i.e. avoiding any glitches due to re-triggering) But I can not give a commitment to this at the moment, it may be something that is shipped as a free upgrade later.

Rikki, you qualify for a free system just as soon as I get volume production underway. As you can understand, development and financing of a new system takes quite some time!! I hope you will be willing to help us with style development for OMB using the expanded sound library developed by Sharp and accessed in LinuxSampler.

Best regards,
Rob

Hi Rob,
that's great that you've got Jos involved with OMB. He's a great guy & it's a good program. (I used to be one of beta testers before I got my PA800.)

Be great to get back to doing some Yammie stuff and having a dedicated sound library to go with it. That's been the problem for many years, there's potential software arranger users, but sounds have been the problem.
Just recently upgraded to version 11, though to date , I haven't spent a great deal of time on it.

I'm happy to get involved with OMB again for my own personal use regardless of what may happen in the future.
So , yep, I might still interested in getting involved down the track.
Yeh, might be handy to sell some before you start giving them away. haahaa

Can you refresh my memory on one thing, you'll have sound mapping to suit KETRON as well as Yamaha??
I've now got the ability to convert my old sd1 styles across to korg from a midifile instead of using emc, so I might try converting to OMB instead of korg. Then hopefully, down the track, they should just need to be tweaked to suit James's library.

Anyway, good luck.
