iKaossilator - import loops/samples?

Post by Bordwehr »

Can anyone here tell me, is it possible to import loops/samples in the iKaossilator app? Or can you only use the built in library?

Yeah, it would be awesome if Korg made a pro version with sample import and patch editing. I would need no other app ;)

If you're looking for a good sampler app, try SampleWiz (written by Jordan Rudess):

@ habazikit -

Issue (for me at least) is wanting to go beyond toy status with this within the Kaoss format - i.e., it would be cool if sample content (even limited) was loadable, and cooler still if it was provided in a plug-&-play file format that Kaoss could easily get.

Not looking for a sampler, per se, but the kaoss adds a performance interface I can wrap my head around pretty much instinctively - not so with some other "pro" sample player formats.

The ipod/phone/pad devices may not have standard input/output combinations, right, but they do employ that WIST technology. It makes me wonder if you could use that on some of these korg apps like the ikaossilator to perhaps sync it, and thereby use it an input virtually, into an ikaoss pad app, it would be cool to be able to effect stuff or even sample.
Maybe if the ikaossilator does well?
(But of course, it still wouldn't be as cool as the real hardware because you'd be strictly limited to what you could use as a virtual input.

...so what's the difference between the touch pad interface for the Kaossilator app and the touch pad interfaces on other iPad apps?

Is it just a question of the ease-of-use of the Korg apps?

The real difference is you can "see" the motions you record, and for each bank, too.
I will say that a real, hardware kaossilator feels better than touching a screen, however. But maybe thats just me.

@ hazabikit,

That was a comment on the performance rather than the physical interface -- I like the modal structures used for the synth and bass pads. I like the way you can pull in alternative parts from other patterns, and make gradual transition to other pattern sets. As far as I'm concerned there's very little difference other than size (1x vs 2x) where the iTouch/iPad are concerned.

And again, this is app is (too?) way intuitive - the FAQ/manual is zen garden sparse... might as well say "Hey, Jasper, just touch it and see what happens".

Having used the bare bones (app) makes me wonder how I could use the (! more flexible) hardware version in my set-up -- which, BTW, I would never have remotely considered before, being a keyboardist, because of the "DJ" marketing slant of all the Kaoss products.

I'd just like a way to drop my own colors in, and maybe some more detailed performance guidelines without dropping $300 to $500 for the hardware option.

I hear you... but you know, I've found that a lot of the recent innovation in electronic instrument design has happened in the "DJ market" products; I picked up the KPro and KP3 specifically because their touchpads were designed to help people make music with non-traditional controllers.

Hey Korg - if you wont give us the ability to import new sounds, could you give us at least in-app purchases of new sounds?

Second that motion...

i'd go $1.99 a pop for a dozen or so genre specific sample sets.

Is there a way to backup my data?

I am still on ios 4.x on my iphone, and need to upgrade but i have way over 50 patterns i dont want to lose. I dont see myself uploading all that to soundcloud... I see no files on the file sharing section of itunes.

Suggestions?

It is now possible to import loops into ikaossilator in version 2.1 using audio copy.
