Unable to upgrade

Post by padking »

I have downloaded the update
KRONOS_Update1_5_0
decompress the .tar.gz folder
which result in mnt.1 that contains
bin, boot, dev, etc, home, korg, lib, sbin,
usr.

copied those files to USB stick I use
to load/save banks,
in global I have a message telling me
failed source device not found.
but in disk mode I see all the files present
in the usb stick.

Somebody having the same problem.

(using mac 10.6.8 )

You do not need to decompress the KRONOS_Update1_5_0.tar.gz

copy KRONOS_Update1_5_0.tar.gz to the root directory

and copy these files to the root:

install.info
posttar.sh
pretar.sh

It should update to 1.5...

Best

Unzip the file you downloaded... put those files ONLY onto the root directory of a USB flash drive (including any folders or directories). Or, just simply unzip the file you downloaded to the root directory of the flash drive. THEN put the USB flash drive in your Kronos USB slot and do the update.

As mentionned, just unzip the file directly to a usb stick, but don't unzip in a folder, unzip directly in the root of the drive.

Then to update you go in GLOBAL (not DISK/load), press right corner arrow down, select update operting system.

p.s. unplug any sound module from the kronos prior to update

How long does the upgrade take... Seriously worried!

Formatted a USB stick on the Kronos (FAT 32), plugged it into my Mac, downloaded the update, unzipped the files onto the root of the USB stick, put the stick into the Kronos and ran the update system - nothing else plugged in except for the power and USB drive.

The stick was recognised and the update started, but now it seems to be stuck at the screen which says:

Updater Version 1.5.0
Installing Files...

No drive access lights, nothing... it's been like this for 35 minutes.

If I'm forced to reboot, I may brick the Kronos which means a 20 mile round trip and £50 for a USB DVD drive to reinstall the OS.

Not happy!

I'm sorry that you've encountered difficulties. It should be finished well before 35 minutes have passed. If you reboot to try the update again, remove the USB stick before restarting.

It might also be good to make a fresh copy of the update files onto the USB stick. I'm wondering if un-zipping directly to the USB stick could possibly be contributing to the problem; I don't know, but just to be sure I'd try un-zipping to a hard drive and then copying to the USB stick.

I sincerely hope that you don't need to reinstall from the DVD, but if you do, then please just use the "Full Install" option, and not "Format and Install." "Full Install" will preserve your data on the internal disk.

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks Dan,

It's been an hour, so I removed the USB stick and rebooted.

Unfortunately I've got a system failure message, so I guess a trip to PC World is in order.

Never mind, these things happen, although next time I'll unzip the files first THEN copy them to the USB stick... I'll also do it on a PC not my Mac as I think it may be doing the usual thing of dumping hidden files to the stick when copying... maybe the Kronos doesn't like them?

It works with the Macintosh. You unzip the update, then open the created folder. You then copy the contents of the created folder onto the root of the USB drive. (Sounds like you did it correctly).

The only hidden file possibly copied would be .DS_Store and that wouldn't affect the Kronos.

Sorry Dan, seem to be having same problems as mentioned above. I unzip to flash, except what I get is a very fast install of 1.5, and then when reboot it shows 1.4,,, what is it can we have some pictures here? because the ecplanations are proving to be confusing to me anyway. Any help I really want this on board. Thanks

unzip the zipped file on your computer first. Then open the created folder and copy the contents of the created folder onto the root of the USB stick.

Now go to the Kronos to the globa page as indicated and follow the steps. When it asks you to insert the OS media, then put the USB stick in. It should install. If not, then obviously something's wrong. The key is to put the contents of the zipped folder on the root of the USB stick, not the created folder itself with the contents inside.

Here's the zip.

Now you unzip it in a folder:

Now you open the folder and you copy the contents on the root of the USB stick/drive.

Then try again.

sorry aaron you got in before me with the pictures that's exactly what I did, and yest I get a very fast install of 1.5, only to find that the previous version is there on re start. Do I need to disable protection in the global mode?

The only thing I can think of is to unzip on the computer first, then verify that your size of files look close to mine and then try again.

No, I don't think you need to disable protection. I didn't.
