Ok - NOW, I'm REALLY ANGRY!

To me this sounds like either an SSD problem or something like the OS has become corrupt and maybe (just guessing), it has "lost" the preference for the startup disk or some critical piece of OS code has become corrupt.
I would guess that there's a "verbose" mode that you could hold down a few buttons and the screen would detail the boot sequence. This is a serious bummer and hopefully this is not wide spread.

Exactly either a corrupt SSD or a file system problem (missing/corrupted files). I hope Korg has a fallback scenario (i.e. OS recovery from thumbdrive).aron wrote:To me this sounds like either an SSD problem or something like the OS has become corrupt and maybe (just guessing), it has "lost" the preference for the startup disk or some critical piece of OS code has become corrupt.

Indeed - I can't believe that you just can't do key/ button combination hold down and start it up again.michelkeijzers wrote:Exactly either a corrupt SSD or a file system problem (missing/corrupted files). I also do not understand how the unit can be on just fine, you come back, turn your head, and it just restarted - to nothing. I know it's a computer, but it's not hooked up to the internet, or on a network, and like someone else posted on another thread - it's in a UPS.
I had the padKontrol in the USB port - and it was working fine - I even posted a thread about that. There was even power on padKontrol. But then - POOF! it was gone. The keyboard goes nowhere, it's strictly a studio machine.
None of this is fun, or makes any sense to me.
Too much equipment. What a bonehead.
Holding down buttons won't help, because if the OS is screwed up, then all it does is try and load it again. The key/button in this case is the power button.Indeed - I can't believe that you just can't do key/ button combination hold down and start it up again.

As for the unit rebooting - wow, it could be anything. There could be some background code running and it screwed up, maybe all it is - is a preference file that gets hosed?
The worst case scenario is bad RAM. That would do it. I guess some sort of power supply problem could do it too. I don't mean the main power supply but if some how there was a problem with voltage on the main boards... This type of problem is very hard to diagnose, but the effect is easy since it's stopping at the same point all the time.

I've decided to forget about this issue, give up, and end it in this thread because nothing can help this situation except getting a new one, which won't happen for another two months or so. In the meantime - I won't be able to do any real sequencing as I gave my other 88 controller to someone who really needed it - 5 months ago.
This whole experience - completely disheartening. A "suddenly" dead keyboard, 5 months old, with no real way to revive it and contradictory restore instructions that simply >>do not work<< on every machine.
Completely disheartening.

I'm really sorry to hear there is not a real solution from the forum members; I guess the real answer is at Korg support.jamsire wrote:I've decided to forget about this issue, give up, and end it in this thread because nothing can help this situation except getting a new one, which won't happen for another two months or so. You probably are not in the mood for a joke, but I would reconsider your signature text if you don't have anything for real sequencing.

Too much equipment for a guitar guy - but no keyboard means, well, no keyboard, and no KRONOS sounds, effects, and stuff that I bought the keyboard for.
Again, I'm just done.
Thanks for the final giggle.

Again, I hope it will get fixed (and it will not happen again; either if it would be a coincidence or there should be a bug fox/OS update). Or a documented and user executable recovery method.
(when my computer would crash I can have it running within a few hours, even faster if I would take the time to create a recovery disk). And the OS of the Kronos can't be that big ... it should fit on a decent USB stick.

So far my 73 is good so I do feel for you. Can I ask did you upgrade the RAM in the Kronos,, In computers it's usually bad ram that stops a boot and so on?

Making music is a passion, not a choice of lifestyle
So, after a $65 USB DVD drive WITH A POWER SUPPLY, it is clear that this restoration procedure is useless - why? Because 3-4 seconds in, the fan just stops, the the Disk light comes on twice, and the little red line just stops at the "S". The DVD drive doesn't even know what to do. Since I already have two DVD-R drives in my system, this new USB DVD drive is now another paper weight.
How can you restore something if it can't wake up properly?
Yes .... it happened to me either...
DVD ? Blue Ray ? bla bla bla .... useless .......... the little red line just stop at the "S"

What confuses me is that we indeed had more than one report of that kind, while again by far most of us don't seem to see anything like that. If it had to do something with OS 1.5, wouldn't we all or at least many experience a similar thing?
Contacting Korg support will be inevitable.
However much I dislike cheap malevolent talk, I think real problems should never be brushed under the carpet, but be faced and solved in a very straightforward way. If Korg is a company which deals with problems in a cooperative way (which is my impression so far), these problems will be solved.
