Possible to get hold of and load the updated EMX patterns

Post by imist »

Hey,

I have an original Korg EMX, i see the new EMXSD has new and updated patterns/presets.

Is it possible to get hold of these and load them into my original EMX? Dont really want to shell out for a new electribe just for updated patterns and a SD card slot..

Cheers.

AFAIK they're exactly the same... you're not missing out on anything.

Korg state:

New up-to-date patterns created by today's hot talent
New preset data has been carefully selected from the latest sounds and patterns produced by creative artists from around the world who love both the ELECTRIBE•MX & ELECTRIBE•SX. Ninja Tune/Big Dada artists Emika and the Anti-pop Consortium are contributors, as well as U.K. MySpace artist Shrike (Tom Thorpe); plus YouTube stars Denkitribe, mryat and Scribej. Simply listening to these new patterns will nourish your desire to create cutting-edge music.

Can anyone confirm whether the new SD model has a different preset collection to the original?

Using preset patterns is a bit of a cheap thing to do. It's what gets people like Dave Grohl complaining about how talentless drum machine users are.

If you know someone with a SD model (or have a friendly person at your local music store) you can do a MIDI DUMP (page 82 of the manual) and transfer the new patterns that way.

I did this when my fuse blew on my old EMX and I bridged the fuse and MIDI DUMPed my patterns from my old EMX to the new EMXSD, worked a treat.

I recently got myself a second EMX-1 (the latest SD version with all the new patterns) and i must say the new patterns are far more impressive than the previous released ones... and some are remixes of the old ones.
still has all the original patterns on it, i've been filling up the pattern slots at the end of D-bank.. but i'm going to start shifting around the existing patterns so i can keep the patterns/sounds i like that i can learn something from and wipe the rest clean to make space.
BUT.. i dont use presets even as a backbone for new patterns. always start fresh.

I'll try figure out how to get them off... i've never used the card reader or midi dump before...

if i can get it right i might start saving some of my own patterns off for people here to use. not that they're any good =P

I 've got both old smart media EMX & ESX and i have loaded the data from new SD EMX&ESX and it all works out fine! The new patterns are much better than the old ones from 2003 plus you get a full C bank now.

You can load the new ESX_SD factory data from the official korg.co.uk but there's nothing on the EMX_SD,don't know why.

The new factory patterns can be found in the Electribe SX SD Addendum, on Manuals & Downloads section.

There were links to the new EMX_SD data from last year, but dead now, and there was much fuss about wheter that was legal or not... Korg should simply put free for download the new EMX_SD data as it's done for the ESX_SD.

Many thanks

Korg EMX-1 SD factory patterns

Post by mrlithium »

Hello. I have an EMX-1 and would like the factory default patterns from the EMX-1 SD version because they are written by denkitribe and mryat - some of the most popular EMX performers on youtube. The patterns ARE very different, I have heard the new ones and they are WAY better.

I don't have a real way to upload the .emx file by smartmedia to my EMX-1, so if you can do a sysex dump, that would be awesome.

In addition, I would like to have someone upload the sysex dump of the "UK Bass" download from the korg website, because I can't upload this until I buy a smartmedia card + a cardreader.

Post by george5004 »

Guys i m buying a used esx and not sure if the original patterns are still on it or not. Is there a way to reset the machine to its original sounds and patterns?
Thank you all

Yes you can reset to factory. All the original factory presets are hard-coded in the machine still somehow. The procedure is in the user manual.

Also, once you do that, can you dump the factory presets to SD card and upload them here? I have been looking for the new presets to dump to my old EMX. Can walk you through it.
