EXs11 Legendary Strings released - Now Live

Post by SeedyLee »

What a pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning: EXs11 Legenday Strings is being released today at 9pm EST.
korg wrote: Dear KRONOS user,

Korg is pleased to announce a new piano library for the KRONOS:
EXs11 Legendary Strings.

Contents: Approximately 2.8 GB of PCM samples, 128 Programs, 48
Combinations, 122 Wave Sequences

This collection delivers a wide vocabulary of string sounds. Choose
from solo performances created on coveted instruments such as a
Stradivarius to the sound of a full orchestra. In addition to
samples of individual performance techniques such as trill, vibrato,
and pizzicato, the collection also includes ensembles offering
differing numbers of players, providing everything needed for
meticulous production work. Large samples allow the nuances of the
performances to be captured, making this the ultimate collection of
string sounds.

EXs11 will be available at 9PM EST on April 19th, 2012 on the Korg
website:

http://www.korg.com/kronos/SoundLibraries

Download and try the demo version for free, and then when you're
ready, buy the authorization code at the special introductory price
of $249.00 (regular price: $299.00).

* System requirements

To install EXs11, you'll need:
* KRONOS software version 1.5.0 or later
* Approximately 2.8 GB or more space on the internal disk
To load the sounds into memory, you'll need:
* Approximately 702MB free RAM

* 3 GB of physical RAM recommended

To load EXs11 at the same time as the factory preload samples, 3 GB
of physical RAM is required. KRONOS system version 1.5.0 adds
support for the professional installation of additional RAM; for
more information, see the documentation for the 1.5.0 update. With 2
GB of physical RAM, you can still use EXs11, but you'll need to
unload some of the preload samples first.

I'm very excited about this library, and can't wait to download and trial it.

Still downloading, another 13 hours to go :( It's downloading at approximately 50 kB/s.

I guess Korg is still saving a decent server/Internet connection. Don't be discouraged Korg, if you save all your pocket money each week, you'll get there eventually!

Been listening to the published demos, and I must say I'm quite impressed with some of them.

I've been downloading for the last 4 hours, and only have 3h 40m to go. Hopefully then I can try it out and provide my thoughts.

One thing I noticed though from the samples is how clean the library is, especially in comparison to the Karo libraries. They almost seem hyper-real. Not saying this makes them superior to the Karo ones, but different - they almost sound synthesized to my ears!

Glad to hear you got it downloaded. I've been downloading other things at a rate 10 times higher, so not sure what's going on.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

The strings are very cool. I think you are characterizing it accurately. The sounds are definitely moving as well as a surreal element to them. I owned an Arp String Solina and these Korg strings I find are even better but the Solina strings were also emotional yet also contained a bit of a surreal element to them. I think I am going for them. :D :D

I use strings in my Kronos for pop and rock music. Haven't tried the new library yet, but it mostly seems to go for realism and orchestral sounds, which I don't really need...

mathieumaes, for me the realism aspect is the whole attraction. YMMV.

I tried the library today. I must say it blew me away. What clean and beautiful sounds. I like them better than the Karo, because there is much less noise in the samples.

There are a few very nice popstring programs, very useful in pop, so not just for realistic music. And there are a lot playing technic programmed with the controllers.

I was used to the yamaha s90es and roland strings and the preset Kronos. Compared to these I am amazed by the clean, rustic and mellow sound, very nice for the ears. No distortion at all. I like it, for the use in my coverband music. There is a very nice disco string program, very useful for the 70s sound. I will use it a lot.

I most certainly will buy this library.

Wow, I sure hope those demos are not representative. The string quartet sounded not unlike a EMU Proteus. But, I've found that with a lot of software companies--they make a wonderful product, then I don't know WHO they get to do the demos...but, suffice to say the instruments are better in my hands.

I DO like the articulation switching via the switch and vector...though, it does sound like the vector at least is just adjusting the attack time (maybe combined with volume relative to sustain) rather than actually switching to different samples...

I'm downloading now. With the progress...I would assume I'll demo some time next week. :)
