And with not I mean for my ears "not at all".

The 7520 are better than the others, but in their high price range there are still alternatives I would prefer.
The Qualias were one of the most neutral headphones I ever owned. I think the 7520s are pretty amazing at their price point. I prefer them to the Qualias although they aren't as bone dry in sound. I ran balanced K701s when they first came out. I really enjoyed them, but I generally don't use open back cans anymore.

I haven't seen many places that have the 7520s available for demo but they are definitely great pro cans made for the studio.

I have to disagree on a few points Sina. The Z1000s are exactly the same as the 7520s. They just have a different physical color. Neither is really all that similar in construction or sound to the Qualias, which is a good thing IMO.

My old reliable Sony 7506s have been serving me very well for 10 years .

Sometimes, i even prefer using them in favor of my hs80s monitors.

Just love them.

Sina, the Sony MDR 7520 cost bewteen 450 and 500€ here in Germany. I don't know how much cheaper you get them in the USA, but certainly not around 200$.

tdwctdwc: The 7506 are the ones I used before the K 702. They have an excellent price-value ratio, but they don't really compare in the low and high range, and even less concerning room image.

It was exactly the obvious diference to the HS80 monitors, which I bought later and use as well, which made me wonder: the Sony headphones just sounded a bit too smooth and nice in comparison to the monitors.

I need exactly that neutral, dry sound to hear what's going on in a mix. And I prefer phones which, besides that, don't have a flat "in head" hifi sound, but deliver a bit more of the difference between things being more in front or back in a mix, like you hear it from studio monitors like the HS80. I get both from the K702, so for m ears they are much closer to the studio monitor impression than other headphones I used or tested, and that's why I like using them so much.

Psychoacoustics is a funny thing anyway: when I bought the K 702, I had to get used to the dry sound and all the detail. Meanwhile, using them along with the HS80, I find I am somewhat spoiled for listening to the classic hifi sound from headphones and speakers. The musician perspective with preference for a dry, but realistic 'live' sound has become my preference over anything more smooth and polished.

At WHAT price point, fanboy?

The 880's and 990's are nice and they are way flatter, yes. But it's completely and utterly useless if you don't enjoy them as much as another pair.
Well I enjoy those Beyers much better than any Sony headphones, so what was your point again? There is none. I got my 880 Pro for less than 200$ new, and I think that's a completely fair price for such an awesome pair of headphones.

FREQUENCY RESPONSE CURVES

Here is a comparison of the AKG K550, Denon AH-D2000, Sony MDR-Z1000 (similar to the MDR-7520, and the Beyer DT880.

http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompar ... phID[]=723

The AKG has the highest rated sensitivity, the Beyer has the lowest sensitivity. The Denon works well with the Kronos. The AKG should be similar and have higher sensitivity.

I will personally BUY those 7509's or 840's for you if you do. This is not a joke. They are THAT good and I am perfectly serious if you want to take that challenge.

Sina
Sina, thanks for the offer lol , but i think i'll be getting a pair of K271 mk2 soon actually . The engineer who is producing my next album recommended i buy them and believes they could serve me well for the type of music i do...

I have the K271 MKIIs as well. They are a good choice for the money and definitely studio oriented.

I picked up a pair of the HS80s for a secondary setup I have. I am really surprised at how good they sound at their extremely reasonable price. They are really easy on the ears and have nice low frequency output.

Make sure you set the room setting switch on the back to -4 if you have them close to the walls . It does make a difference.
