controlling TWO midi keyboards

Post by ferchis »

Is there a way to control the Kronos with TWO midi keyboards at the same time?

I mean, let's suppose I plug the Casio Privia piano to the Midi IN in the kronos, could I have ANOTHER midi keyboard plugged into the, say, USB connection...?

or is midi THRU the way?

any help appreciated!

The best way I think would be to plug into the midi in on your second keyboard.
Let me try this again.

Go from the midi out on you first keyboard to the midi in on the second.
From there, use the midi out and go to the midi in on your kronos.
You must define your midi channels on each of the first 2 keyboards.

Say midi channel 2 for the first and midi channel 3 for the second.

You have to have the Kronos on combi mode.

If, for example, you want to have a piano and a 2 manual organ I would build a combi with piano on the kronos midi channel 1 and organs on 2 and 3. Two different organ sounds of course. I would also probably use an IFX rotary speaker effect so that my foot switch would control the Leslie sim the same way for both organs thus giving a presentable fake.
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!

If the keyboards are usb class compliant, you can connect two keyboards at the same time to the usb ports.

Most keyboards won't combine their MIDI Input to their Output. The Thru port repeats the input but doesn't add the messages from that device to it. To be honest it would be a very useful feature on controller keyboards but hardly anyone implements it.

So yes, using the USB would be the best way. If you want to use multiple standard DIN connections, you're going to need a MIDI patchbay or merge unit.

I've had the same issue in the past, I used a MIDI merge box which combines 2 MIDI input signales and outputs a single MIDI Out:

(I have one for sale)

alright, I'll try the midi pin connection and then add another one with the USB port, see what happens...

I'll let you know how it goes!
