So I finally made up my mind about the Kronos or X

Post by Night Spirit »

After lots of research, reading posts, getting feedback I have made up my mind. I will be sticking with the Original Kronos over the Kronos X. As some of you know I have the opportunity to swap out my K88 for the X88, or get a replacement K88. So I finally made up my mind I am sticking with the K88 for two reasons.

#1 I think the big red X looks redicalous and cheapens the look of the product to me. Also it seams as if the color of the new X88 is more grey then black.

#2 I can easily modify my K88 to go above and beyond the X88 the only difference I will not have the pre loaded samples BIG whoop

Those are my reasons for staying with the K88 VS swapping up to the X88, so for those wanting to get a board I would suggest sticking with the K88 and get the discounts they doing right now while it lasts.

How do you mean you won't have the preloaded samples?

So if I understand correctly, your first reason is the big X and the color of the unit?

I'm trying to figure out if you're joking or not.

The X88 comes with a few more sample bank's that the K88 does not have stock. But they are that just samples so it's really not needed.

And no I am not joking, one main reason is the Big Red X and the greyish color of the X88. I do not like that Big Red X nor do I care for the greyish color of the board. I like the solid black of the K88 and the clean logo of the Kronos with out the Big Red X.

Since the K88 and the X88 are the exact same unit, same functions same sound same build. Only main difference is the K88 can be easily modified to go above and beyond the X88. Since the K88 is more user friendly for modifications. I can put in more memory then the X88, Better HD and mod it to out spec the X88 easily.

That and I really do not like that Big Red X and the greyish color

I'm not aware of more sample banks. As far as I know they are identical, software wise. Which sample banks are those?

Ohhhh they're just demos anyway, and you could download and install them too if you wanted.

Yep I was searching for the install for the demo those legendary strings sounds amazing but could not find it.

Only diff is the X88 has the Larger SSD HD demo sounds and bigger ram which they now use laptop ram, vs K88 desktop ram which is better in my opinion. So I just need to update with some killer patriot ram get a hefty HD and bam my K88 is better then the X88 and I do not have that big red X staring me in the face every time i use the board.

I suppose if a KRONOS was to break down on you -( big time), they might repair it with the Kronos X spec mobo/ram etc) (a bit like when you send an Old PC graphics card back to your suppiler under warrentee, only to receive a "faster card" because they no longer stock older ones.

Motherboard is the exact same, faster CPU only due to ram and SSD drive, and laptop ram is the key word there. Laptop ram will never be as superior as desktop ram. You can make the K88 out speck the X88 very easily and some users here have done that already.

sighter faster cpu, 1.8 Ghz vs 1.66,
the MB is the mostly the same, except
for processor and ram type; chipset is the same.
Max ram 4 GB for both, only 3 GB are recognized by S.O.

The difference is ridiculous, there's no
real benefit in practice, for performance or whatever

Yes I agree the X88 stock is better, but my point being the K88 can be upgraded to those specks and beyond. The amount of money saved on the K88 Vs X88 is more then you need to buy the parts to upgrade the K88. That is my overall point for users who have the chance to get the K88 for cheap, or X88. They can save the cash upgrade the K88 and have the exact same product plus some.
